Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Program Management:
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive radiation safety program.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal radiation safety laws (e.g., Atomic Energy Rules).
Training & Education:
Instruct all personnel on safe practices, proper use of protective gear, and emergency procedures.
Monitoring:
Conduct routine surveys, personnel monitoring (dosimetry), and maintain records of radiation levels.
Equipment Oversight:
Verify safe operation, calibration, and proper labeling of radiation-producing devices (like linear accelerators).
Emergency Preparedness:
Create and manage plans for radiation accidents and incidents.
Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed documentation for audits and regulatory reporting.
Liaison:
Serve as the main contact for regulatory agencies (like AERB in India or state health departments).

Safe Handling:
Oversee procedures involving radioactive sources, including source transfer or replacement.

Implementation:
Enforce time, distance, and shielding principles for staff and patients.
Authorization:
Ensure only trained, authorized individuals operate radiation equipment.
