Medical Oncologist Consultant

Role & responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive evaluation of patients suspected or diagnosed with cancer.
  
• Formulate individualized treatment plans using chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care.
  
• Monitor treatment response, manage side effects, and modify regimens as needed.
  
• Provide inpatient care, ICU support for oncology patients, and manage oncologic emergencies (e.g., TLS, febrile neutropenia, SVC syndrome).
  
• Perform and supervise procedures such as bone marrow aspiration/biopsy, intrathecal chemotherapy, and central line management.
  
• Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary meetings with surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists.
  

Patient Care & Counselling

• Explain diagnosis, staging, prognosis, and treatment options to patients and families.
  
• Offer psychosocial and palliative care support; collaborate with palliative medicine teams.
  
• Ensure compassion, empathy, and patient-centered communication.
  

Administrative & Documentation

• Maintain accurate and complete medical records in line with hospital and legal standards.
  
• Supervise oncology nursing staff and junior doctors.
  
• Ensure adherence to NABH/JCI quality standards in oncology.
  
• Develop and participate in clinical protocols, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  

Research & Education

• Participate in clinical research studies and clinical trials (if applicable).
  
• Stay updated with the latest oncology guidelines (NCCN, ASCO, ESMO).
  
• Provide teaching and training to DNB/MD residents, interns, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
  

Preferred candidate profile

• MBBS + MD/DNB in Internal Medicine

• DM/DNB in Medical Oncology or equivalent

• Valid Medical Council Registration
  
• Additional fellowships in oncology (optional but desirable)
  
• Experience:

  02 years
