Description
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your role involves designing LED light fixtures and linear lighting systems with a focus on IP & IK rated designs, manufacturing processes, and vendor coordination. Your responsibilities will include: - Designing and developing LED lighting fixtures, linear lights, and outdoor/industrial luminaires - Creating designs compliant with IP ratings (IP65/IP66/IP67) and IK impact ratings - Converting product concepts into manufacturable mechanical designs - Performing DFM/DFA to ensure designs are easy to manufacture, cost-optimized, and free from production bottlenecks - Selecting appropriate materials such as aluminium extrusions, plastics, gaskets, fasteners, lenses, and diffusers - Working closely with vendors & suppliers for tooling, extrusion, injection molding, die-casting, and surface treatments - Preparing 2D drawings, 3D models, BOMs, and assembly instructions - Coordinating with electronics, optics, quality, and manufacturing teams - Supporting prototyping, testing, validation, and field feedback improvements To excel in this role, you should have: - Strong experience in LED luminaire mechanical design - In-depth knowledge of IP sealing concepts, IK impact protection, and thermal considerations for LED fixtures - Proficiency in SolidWorks and working knowledge of AutoCAD - Understanding of manufacturing processes including aluminium extrusion, sheet metal, injection molding, die-casting, and CNC machining - Vendor interaction skills and a process optimization mindset Qualifications required for this position include a B.E / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience in lighting or similar product design. It would be good to have experience with outdoor / industrial / infrastructure lighting, exposure to mass production scaling, and knowledge of lighting standards and real-world installation constraints.
