Job Description

Catalyx Space is developing next-generation entry systems for space. As a Mid-Level Mechanical Design Engineer (Structures), you will take ownership of subsystem-level design, analysis, and integration for spacecraft and reentry vehicles. You will balance CAD design, FEA modelling, and hardware integration, while also being responsible for wire harness routing and modelling within spacecraft assemblies. This role is ideal for engineers who want their fingerprints on space hardware and to see their work move from design to real-world integration and test.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop SolidWorks CAD models and detailed drawings for spacecraft structures and assemblies.
  • Perform FEA modelling and analysis (structural, modal, buckling, vibration) using ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent tools.
  • Execute tolerance stack-up analyses and GD&T in compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Define and implement assembly sequences for spacecraft structures and subsystems.
  • Own the wire harness routing, modelling, and documentation within spacecraft CAD assemblies.
  • Participate in actual harness integration, ensuring proper installation, strain relief, and fit.
  • Contribute to qualification campaigns (vibration, thermal, acoustic) with correlation between analysis and test.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) in assigned designs.
  • Coordinate with vendors for manufacturing, inspection, and delivery of flight hardware.
  • Generate engineering documentation and reports for design reviews and configuration management.
  • Responsible for procurement activities and coordinating with vendors to ensure timely delivery of parts and services

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/Master's in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 35 years of experience in aerospace structural design and integration.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD.
  • Proficiency in FEA modelling (structural, modal, vibration).
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up.
  • Exposure to composites, sandwich panels, and high-temperature materials.
  • Familiarity with wire harness integration and CAD-based routing tools.
  • Hands-on experience with spacecraft integration and environmental testing (preferred).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with harness brackets, supports, and strain relief design.
  • Experience correlating FEA results with qualification test data.
  • Ability to own sub assemblies end-to-end.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.

About Us:

We're building AWS for space, providing space experiments and technology demonstrations across LEO, deep space, and lunar orbit.

Our offerings include unmanned labs, testbeds for both dedicated and rideshare missions, and re-entry capsules for payload retrieval.

We simplify access to space with affordable pricing, end-to-end solutions, no minimum mass limits, zero integration fees, and quick deployment (6 months or less).
