Position Title: Project Estimation Engineer Location: Mysore, Karnataka, India Department: Proposals Reports To: Proposal Manager Job Summary: The Project Estimation Engineer is responsible for analyzing project specifications and preparing detailed cost estimates and budgets for engineering projects. This role involves working closely with project teams, procurement, and suppliers to gather accurate data, assess potential risks, and ensure that projects are financially feasible. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to develop accurate and realistic estimates that contribute to the successful execution of projects. Skills & Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Experience: 3-5 years of experience in project estimation, cost analysis, or a related field. Experience in the specific industry (e.g., construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, etc.) firefighting or suppression systems knowledge is preferred. Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., strong Excel skills). Knowledge of construction methods, material costs, and metallurgy is preferred. Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex project data, identify cost drivers, and create accurate cost estimates. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present estimates, reports, and project updates clearly to stakeholders. Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in estimates and minimize errors. Problem-Solving: Ability to assess risks, resolve issues, and identify cost-saving opportunities during the estimation process. Project Management Skills: Basic understanding of project management principles, including scheduling and resource allocation. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and procurement staff. Time Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate cost estimates for engineering projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overheads. Use historical data, industry standards, and supplier quotations to develop estimates. Scope Analysis: Review and analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to understand the full scope of work and identify any potential risks or challenges. Vendor and Supplier Liaison: Work closely with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and pricing information. Evaluate supplier capabilities and ensure cost-effective procurement of materials and services. Risk Assessment: Identify and assess project risks and uncertainties, such as potential cost overruns, material shortages, or design challenges. Recommend mitigation strategies to minimize risks. Cost Control: Monitor and track project costs during execution, comparing actual expenses to the initial estimates. Provide regular reports to project managers and senior leadership. Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy of estimates and alignment with project requirements and timelines. Project Scheduling: Assist in developing project schedules, ensuring that timelines are realistic and that estimates align with project milestones and deadlines. Bidding & Tendering Support: Assist in the preparation of project bids and tenders, ensuring all cost elements are included and accurate. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all estimates, including assumptions, methodologies, and supporting data, for future reference and auditing purposes. Continuous Improvement: Keep up with industry trends, new materials, and innovative technologies to improve estimation accuracy and processes. Working Conditions: Full-time position. Primarily office based. Occasional travel may be required to project sites or client meetings.
