The Director of Fraud Risk Investigation will lead and manage the end-to-end fraud investigation and prevention program for PayU Finance's lending and payment products. This role requires a strategic leader with deep domain expertise in financial services, fintech lending, and advanced fraud detection techniques. The director will be responsible for defining the fraud risk strategy, overseeing complex investigations, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and driving a culture of security and risk mitigation across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic leadership: Develop and execute the overall fraud risk strategy and roadmap for PayU Finance's products, including Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) and personal loans.
- Team management: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of fraud investigators and analysts to proactively identify and mitigate emerging fraud threats.
- Investigation oversight: Oversee high-priority fraud investigations, ensuring timely resolution, accurate documentation, and effective recovery of fraudulent losses.
- Advanced analytics: Leverage advanced data analytics, SQL, and machine learning models to identify fraudulent patterns and build effective rule-based and AI-driven detection systems.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, data science, and business teams to embed fraud prevention measures into product design and operational processes.
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure the fraud program operates in full compliance with local financial regulations, including mandates from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and assist with internal audits and regulatory reviews.
- Stakeholder management: Act as a key point of contact for external parties, including law enforcement, merchant partners, and other financial institutions, for fraud-related matters.
- Reporting and governance: Prepare and present executive-level reports on fraud trends, risk exposure, and team performance to senior leadership and risk governance committees.
Required Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Statistics, or Computer Science.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in fraud risk management, with a proven track record in the fintech lending or payment processing industry. Experience in a director-level role is preferred.
- Technical skills: High proficiency in data analysis using SQL, experience with business intelligence tools like Power BI, and a solid understanding of machine learning for fraud detection.
- Industry knowledge: Deep understanding of fraud typologies and prevention techniques specific to online lending products like BNPL and personal loans.
- Certifications (preferred): Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), or other relevant risk management certifications.
- Leadership and communication: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively influence stakeholders at all levels.
