In this role, you will be working on various projects to evaluate the impact of building materials on energy and comfort performance. Your responsibilities will include aiding in new product development with Business Unit (BU) teams, using simulation software and onsite measurements to assess the product's performance. We are seeking professionals who are self-motivated and capable of independently designing and planning experiments. You should excel in data analysis and be skilled in preparing reports for both internal teams and external clients. Domain expertise is essential in areas such as daylighting, thermal and energy assessment through simulations and onsite measurements, basic knowledge of MATLAB/Python, data monitoring, and visualization. Key Accountabilities: - Conduct climate analysis to comprehend outdoor conditions in Indian, European, and American cities - Perform whole building simulations to quantify energy consumption, thermal comfort, and visual comfort in various building types like offices, residences, hotels, and hospitals - Analyze simulation outputs using appropriate tools and compare them with international or local standards such as ASHRAE, ECBC, and NBC - Prepare standardized reports and utilize effective infographics to present the analysis results - Collaborate with the in-house team to enhance the simulation process efficiency and reduce analysis and report generation time - Assist Glass and Gypsum R&D teams in building arguments to support product prescriptions - Aid BU R&D teams in the development of new products - Conduct onsite measurements for multi-comfort assessment inside buildings, including thermal, visual, air quality, and acoustics - Demonstrate enthusiasm for exploring and developing new products by leveraging publications, journals, and university collaborations Skills and Knowledge: - Master's degree or equivalent in Building Science, Energy Efficiency, Thermal, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Civil, or Architecture - Previous knowledge of building science principles, multi-comfort parameters, and international/local standards like ASHRAE, ECBC, and NBC - Proficiency in software tools such as Design Builder, Rhino, Grasshopper, Ladybug, Diva, LightStanza, and Oneclick is mandatory - Familiarity with AutoCAD and Sketchup tools is highly desirable - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational abilities, and punctuality are essential - Experience with data acquisition, instrument control, and instrumentation configurations is a plus - Knowledge of post-processing software related to big data like MATLAB and MS Excel would be beneficial,

About the ASSURE (Accelerating Sustainable and Super-Efficient Real Estate) project The ASSURE project is a collaborative initiative between the Indian Institute for Human Settlements and Infosys, a global digital services and consulting company. The main objective of ASSURE is to revolutionize India's real estate sector, which is large, rapidly expanding, and has a significant carbon and energy footprint, by advocating for the widespread adoption of High Performance Buildings (HPBs). In the upcoming years, ASSURE plans to provide technical support to major developers in India for key projects covering 100 million square feet. This includes upskilling 12,000 individuals, backing 30 innovative ventures, introducing a platform for performance measurement and verification to encourage HPB adoption and financing, as well as collaborating with policymakers and financial decision-makers to establish favorable policies and financial structures for HPBs. Within the lighthouse projects, ASSURE collaborates closely with developer teams to set achievable performance objectives, guide technology and design selections, aid in implementation and operations, and navigate financial and procurement pathways to ensure the successful execution and functioning of HPBs. Job Description We are currently looking for a Building Simulation Expert proficient in conducting thermal, energy, daylighting, and glare analyses through annual simulations. As a part of this role, you will focus on analyzing and simulating large commercial building projects, creating or modifying simulations for further evaluations. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a team of expert consultants, attend project meetings, and gain insights into the process of design consulting. Activities and Tasks Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to: - Performing daylight penetration, glare, and daylight availability assessments using LightStanza - Conducting facade heat gain analysis utilizing IES VE and DesignBuilder and refining shading strategies - Developing passive design strategies that strike a balance between daylighting and thermal comfort - Generating simulation reports and presentations, and collaborating with architects and engineers - Presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders - Extending support to various IIHS activities such as academics, research, training, and operations - Engaging in all aspects of Institution-building at IIHS, undertaking assigned tasks, and traveling for IIHS-related work within or outside the country as needed Structure and Reporting The Building Simulation Expert will report to the Project Director of ASSURE at IIHS. Effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders is essential for this role. Person Specification The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and skills: - A Master's degree focusing on Building Energy Performance, Building Science, or related fields, with substantial coursework on building performance - Prior experience in building projects is advantageous - Proficiency in assessing daylighting sufficiency, glare, heat gain, and energy performance metrics - Expertise in LightStanza, IES VE, or DesignBuilder - Ability to create and manipulate 3-D models in Sketchup, Rhino, or Revit (with Grasshopper) and translate simulation outcomes into actionable design strategies - Familiarity with green building rating systems and energy codes - Excellent report writing and graphic presentation abilities - Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word - Knowledge of scripting in python, running batch simulations, and additional skills will be beneficial - Strong teamwork and communication skills This position is exclusive, meaning that any other professional engagements that may pose a conflict of interest with IIHS cannot be pursued.
