Don't apply without reading job discription About the Company LENZ is a deep-tech clean energy company focused on building next-generation power generation technology. We’re currently developing a revolutionary vertical-axis wind turbine based on origami-inspired expandable blades that adapt to changing wind conditions. Our mission is to design intelligent, ultra-efficient wind turbines that generate power even at low wind speeds and withstand high winds without shutdown, thereby enabling clean, reliable energy for telecom towers, off-grid infrastructure, and urban installations. Role Overview We are looking for a Wind Turbine Design Engineer who will lead the end-to-end mechanical and aerodynamic design of our adaptive wind turbine system. You will be the first technical hire for this project and will work closely with the founder and other cross-functional engineers to turn this idea into a working prototype. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about innovation in renewable energy, has strong hands-on experience in wind turbine or aero-mechanical systems, and is excited to design and build something radically new. Key Responsibilities Design a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) structure with foldable/expandable blades Create detailed CAD models for rotor, blade, and expansion mechanism Run CFD simulations (airflow, drag, lift) and FEA simulations (stress/load) to validate performance Design motor-actuated or mechanical blade expansion systems based on wind speed Collaborate with electronics/control engineer for sensor integration and control logic Support prototype development, testing, and iterative improvement Document design calculations, simulations, and test results Required Skills and Qualifications Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field 2–6 years of experience in turbine, rotor, or mechanical system design Strong proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Fusion 360) Experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM) and/or FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus) Understanding of wind turbine aerodynamics, torque curves, blade profiles Ability to analyze design constraints and optimize for performance and reliability Strong problem-solving and design-from-scratch capabilities Preferred / Bonus Skills Experience designing or simulating VAWT systems Knowledge of origami-based folding mechanisms or kinetic structures Familiarity with actuator design, mechatronics, or sensor-based systems Prior experience in prototype fabrication or testing What We Offer Opportunity to be part of a deep-tech clean energy innovation from Day 1 Full creative and technical ownership of the turbine design Equity or founding engineer track (based on contribution and interest) Hands-on R&D role in a fast-paced, ambitious, and purpose-driven team The chance to work on a patented, globally relevant hardware technology We are not just hiring an engineer; we are looking for a builder , a pioneer , someone who can take ownership of this technology and help shape the future of LENZ. If you are excited by the idea of building something from scratch and want to be part of the founding team , this is your opportunity to lead, innovate, and grow with us.
