As a Socio-Economic Functional Area Expert, you are required to possess a Masters (post graduate) degree in disciplines such as Social Welfare, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Geography, Anthropology, Economics, Environmental Economics, Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Developmental Sciences, Rural Development and Management, Rural Economics, Economic Sociology, Demographic Studies, or an MBA in Rural Management. Alternatively, a 2 years Post Graduate Diploma in Sociology from recognized institutions like Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Xavier Institute of Social Sciences, Ranchi, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, XLRI, Jamshedpur, or other reputed institutes is also acceptable. Your experience in this functional area should include conducting baseline socio-economic surveys through interviews, questionnaires, focused group discussions, participatory rural appraisal (PRA), and rapid rural appraisal (RRA). You should be familiar with methodologies for extrapolating census data and validating the same on the ground. Additionally, you must be able to conduct social needs assessment studies, evaluate the socio-economic status of tribal and non-tribal areas, and develop rapport at the community level. Experience in conducting Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) studies for people displaced due to developmental projects, evaluating social changes arising from development projects, and knowledge of EIA legislation process in India are also expected. Furthermore, as a Functional Area Expert in Socio-Economics, you are expected to contribute to EIA documentation, understand policies, guidelines, and legislation related to R&R issues, and ideally have training in Social Impact Assessment of development projects in Rural/Urban areas. For Category A projects, a minimum of 5 years of total experience in the relevant area is required, with at least 3 years specifically in EIA-related functions, following the minimum qualifications as specified.
