Lead Engineer - Routing & Switching protocol developer

Role Overview: As a Software Engineer at Ciena, you will have a significant impact on the development of the Vyatta Network Operating System (NOS), assisting customers in constructing and implementing virtualized networks. Your responsibilities will encompass creating embedded software on the Vyatta NOS, engaging in all aspects of software development, addressing software challenges, and collaborating with Product Owners to introduce new features and technologies. Moreover, you will be involved in shaping the software architecture to enhance resiliency, debuggability, and maintainability. Key Responsibilities: - Develop embedded software on the Vyatta NOS, which is a modified Debian Linux operating system. - Engage in all phases of software development, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, and testing. - Address software issues and offer customer and verification support. - Create unit tests and test-automation suites. - Work closely with Product Owners to integrate new features and technologies while maintaining performance. - Influence or define software architecture to improve resiliency, debuggability, and maintainability. Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's/masters degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent with 8+ years of relevant experience. - Proficient in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and programming skills (C, C++, Python). - Thorough understanding of Linux OS and open-source software development. - Experience in designing and developing L2/L3 networking technologies. - Familiarity with software development for Data Forwarding paths (Software, Hardware). - Knowledge of network merchant silicon chipsets and whitebox platforms. - Proficiency in troubleshooting large-scale deployments. - Familiarity with manageability frameworks such as Yang/XML. - Experience with virtualization technologies like Intel DPDK, SR-IOV, etc. - Understanding of network routers/switches or routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, etc.). - Skilled in using the Atlassian tool suite, Git, and Jenkins. - Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and excellent teamwork and collaboration skills. - Capable of multitasking and working independently with minimal guidance. - Open to continuous learning and self-improvement. - Excellent communication and technical documentation abilities. - Strong organizational skills to manage time, resources, and priorities.,
