As a Software Engineer at Ciena, you will be a crucial part of our engineering team, focusing on developing the Vyatta Network Operating System (NOS) that we recently acquired. Your primary responsibility will involve supporting customers in the construction and deployment of their virtualized networks. While working on the legacy product, you will gain skills that can be applied to our cutting-edge SAOS 10X platform. Your role will gradually transition towards contributing to the development and maintenance of the SAOS 10X platform. Key Responsibilities: - Develop embedded software on the Vyatta NOS, a customized Debian Linux operating system. - Engage in all phases of software development, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, and testing. - Address software issues and offer customer support and verification. - Create unit tests and test-automation suites. - Collaborate with Product Owners to integrate new features and technologies into software applications while ensuring optimal performance. - Influence or define software architecture to improve resiliency, debuggability, and maintainability. Requirements: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. - Proficiency in network merchant silicon chipsets and whitebox platforms. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and programming skills in C, C++, and Python. - Experience in designing and developing L2/L3 networking technologies. - Thorough understanding of Linux OS and open-source software development. - Knowledge of software development for Data Forwarding paths (Software, Hardware). - Proficient in troubleshooting large-scale deployments. - Familiarity with manageability frameworks like Yang/XML. - Experience with virtualization technologies such as Intel DPDK, SR-IOV, etc. - Understanding of network routers/switches or routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, etc.). - Competence in using Atlassian tool suite, Git, and Jenkins. - Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership, excellent teamwork and collaboration skills. - Ability to multitask, work independently with minimal guidance, and willingness for continuous learning and self-improvement. - Excellent communication and technical documentation skills. - Outstanding organization skills to manage time, resources, and priorities effectively.
