To excel in this position, you should hold a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field, along with at least 4 years of professional experience in graphic design, preferably within the travel, hospitality, or luxury sectors. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is essential, as is a robust portfolio showcasing your design prowess. Moreover, a deep understanding of typography, color theory, and layout design will be beneficial, alongside excellent project management skills, strong communication abilities, and a keen eye for detail. The Layout Artist is responsible for the story-telling, shot sequence continuity, and presentation as part of the VFX pipeline for feature film and/or high-level television. Utilizing assets from the modeling department and/or camera track from the matchmove department, you create a rough pass of the shot as a whole as well as packages necessary components for use in later departments. While camera animation and composition is the main objective, you may be required to create simple animation, lighting, and FX in order to convey key story points. Creates visually striking composition based on the shot description and/or storyboard. Matches references such as previs and/or images. Supplement shots with simple but convincing animation, lighting, and FX to aid story-telling. Stitches plate-based shots into a full CG environment and vice versa. Assembles the correct combination of assets in a shot for use in downstream departments. Includes proof of scale and continuity in a virtual layout set up. Debugs technical problems and escalates issues as needed. Takes directions and applies notes from supervisors. Qualifications: Three (3) to five (5) years of layout experience in visual effects for feature film or television (required). Bachelor's degree or Diploma in the field of arts, film, and/or animation (preferred). Advanced software skills in Maya (required). Basic to Intermediate skills in 3ds Max, Photoshop, Shotgun, Nuke, and Scripting (preferred). Extensive skillset in camera animation, staging, and set dressing. Great sense of presentation via lighting, texturing, and/or FX. Solid animation grounding for story-telling purposes. Background or experience in traditional Fine Arts demonstrating a thorough understanding of framing and composition. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a team player with a great attitude. Great eye for detail with excellent and consistent quality assurance. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. XSQUADS is seeking a skilled Layout Artist with at least 4 years of experience to play a crucial role in connecting 2D animatics with 3D animation. As a Layout Artist, you will be responsible for crafting cinematic shots, determining camera angles, and structuring scene compositions to enhance visual storytelling. Your responsibilities will include translating 2D animatics into 3D scenes while ensuring shot composition and continuity. You will be arranging 3D environments, characters, and props in alignment with the cinematic storyboard. Setting up camera angles, movement, and framing to convey the intended visual narrative will be a key aspect of your role. Additionally, applying minor animations and motion blocking for timing and reference before passing them to animators is essential. You must maintain consistency in camera work, depth, and perspective throughout all scenes and collaborate closely with storyboard artists, cinematic artists, and 3D animators to refine shot layouts. Optimizing scenes for smooth rendering and seamless animation handoff as well as utilizing AI-powered tools and procedural workflows to boost layout efficiency will be part of your daily tasks. Furthermore, you will need to make necessary adjustments to shot framing and scene composition based on feedback received. To qualify for this position, you must have proven experience as a Layout Artist, Previs Artist, or Camera Layout Artist in the gaming, film, or animation industry. A strong grasp of camera composition, shot continuity, and visual storytelling is essential. Proficiency in tools such as Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine, Unity 3D, or similar software is required. Your ability to set up camera rigs, movements, and perspectives for cinematic sequences, along with basic knowledge of animation blocking and character placement, will be critical. Experience with storyboards, animatics, and scene breakdowns is preferred, as well as familiarity with AI-assisted tools for layout and scene optimization. Attention to detail and a keen eye for cinematic aesthetics are qualities that will set you up for success in this role. Preferred skills for this position include experience in real-time cinematics using game engines, an understanding of lighting and shading for pre-visualization, and the ability to work with motion capture data and pre-animated assets. A passion for cinematic storytelling in games and interactive media will be highly valued.
