Job Description – Lathe Operator (ITI – Fitter/Turner)

Location: Roorkee, Uttarakhand

Experience: 3–4 Years

Qualification: ITI in Turner / Fitter / Machinist

Work Schedule:- Full-time, on-site at Roorkee facility.

Position Overview

Looking for a skilled Lathe Operator with hands-on experience in operating Manual Lathe machines for precision machining. The candidate will be responsible for turning, facing, threading, grooving, and machining custom mechanical parts used in instrumentation assemblies, fixtures, and engineering components.

Key Responsibilities

•Operate manual lathe machine for precision turning and machining of MS/SS/Aluminium parts.

•Interpret technical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols.

•Prepare and set up tools, workpieces, and machine parameters.

•Perform facing, drilling, threading (internal & external), boring, taper turning, and part finishing.

•Measure and inspect components using Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Gauge tools to maintain accuracy.

•Maintain daily production records, machining logs, and part quality documentation.

•Carry out routine maintenance of Lathe machines and ensure safe working conditions.

•Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams for prototype and batch production parts.

•Ensure all components comply with required tolerances and surface finish specifications.

•Follow ISO quality and safety protocols.

Required Skills

•Strong knowledge of lathe operation, cutting parameters, tool selection, and tool wear.

•Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand engineering tolerances.

•Proficient in measurement and quality inspection tools.

•Basic understanding of material properties (MS, EN8, Stainless Steel, Aluminium).

•Ability to maintain consistent accuracy and surface finish.

Preferred Attributes

•Experience in manufacturing instrumentation parts, fixtures, couplers, threaded rods, etc.

•Willingness to learn advanced machining and production processes.

•Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

•As per industry standards and candidate’s skill level.
