Role: Language Editor

Location: Tiruchirappalli

Job Summary

The professional Language Editor will be responsible for producing high-quality, timely, and error-free scientific and academic manuscripts. This role involves comprehensive language refinement, adherence to publication standards, and ensuring the content is exceptional, informative, and engaging while maintaining strict quality and accuracy standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Language and Readability Enhancement: Improve the author's text to enhance the overall clarity and readability of research articles, ensuring all content is logically structured and complete.
  • Error Correction and Quality Assurance: Meticulously read and edit content to eliminate spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors from scientific and academic material.
  • Style and Policy Adherence: Consistently follow the specific publication's style, editorial policy, project requirements, and house style (including capitalization, spacing, dashes, and vocabulary).
  • Content Restructuring: Prepare, rewrite, and edit sentences and paragraphs to improve text flow and readability, ensuring the content aligns perfectly with all established guidelines.
  • Citation and Reference Verification: Ensure rigorous cross-checking so that all references cited in the text are accurately included in the reference list and vice versa.
  • Author Communication: Raise detailed author queries where necessary and efficiently incorporate subsequent changes and clarifications.
  • Productivity and Deadlines: Meet and maintain daily/monthly productivity targets and quality norms for manuscript processing.
  • Style Manual Expertise: Possess up-to-date knowledge and practical application of major style manuals, including Chicago, APA (American Psychological Association), and AMA (American Medical Association).
  • Tool Utilization: Utilize editing tools effectively to check for language, grammar, and in-house style conventions.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in Copy Editing or Language Editing of academic journals or books, with a high emphasis on quality.
  • Communication: Effective English communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • Grammar Proficiency: Exceptional command of English grammar and an acute eye for detail.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong multitasking and organizational abilities.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and workflow.
  • Technical Familiarity: Familiarity with the publisher’s specific house style and journal specifications.
  • Work Schedule: Flexibility to work in rotational shifts as required.
