Layer 1 (L1) Engineer (LTE/5G PHY)
Location :
Bengaluru, India
Experience Range :
2 - 9 yearsWe are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Layer 1 (L1) Engineer to join our team in Bengaluru. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational understanding and hands-on experience in wireless communication technologies, particularly the Physical Layer of LTE (4G) and 5G networks. This role is critical for the design, development, optimization, and testing of our cutting-edge eNodeB/gNB (base station) solutions, with a strong focus on Cloud-Native architectures.
Responsibilities
- Design and Development : Architect, design, and implement high-performance Physical Layer (PHY) algorithms and modules for LTE (4G) TDD and 5G NR base station (eNodeB/gNB) software stacks.
- Standards Compliance : Analyze, interpret, and implement functionalities strictly adhering to 3GPP LTE and 5G standards.
- Signal Processing : Develop and optimize advanced digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms relevant to the PHY layer, such as synchronization, channel estimation, equalization, MIMO processing, and coding/decoding.
- Performance Optimization : Conduct extensive performance tuning and multi-core processor optimization of L1 algorithms to meet strict real-time and throughput requirements.
- Cloud-Native Integration : Actively participate in integrating L1 components within Cloud-Native architectures and technologies (e.g., containers, microservices, Kubernetes).
- Testing and Validation : Develop unit tests, integrate L1 with higher layers (L2/L3), and support system-level validation and field trials.
- Documentation : Create detailed design documents, test plans, and technical specifications.
- Collaboration : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Systems Engineering, L2/L3 Software Development, and QA, to ensure seamless integration and high product quality.
Required Skills And Expertise
Mandatory Technical Skills :
- Wireless Standards : Mandatory expertise in LTE (4G) and 5G wireless communication systems, with in-depth knowledge of the Physical Layer (PHY) design and signal processing chain.
- eNodeB/gNB Focus : Demonstrable and relevant experience must be specifically on the Base Station (eNodeB/gNB) side of the protocol stack.
- LTE TDD : Strong understanding and hands-on experience with LTE TDD (Time Division Duplexing) operation, features, and implementation details.
- Programming Languages : Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ for developing high-performance, real-time wireless software.
- Simulation/Modeling : Proficient in using MATLAB or equivalent tools for L1 algorithm design, simulation, and verification.
- 3GPP Standards : Solid working knowledge of relevant 3GPP LTE and 5G standards and specifications.
Core Competencies
- Signal Processing : Deep understanding of fundamental digital communication and signal processing techniques (e.g., OFDM, channel coding, massive MIMO, beamforming).
- Optimization : Hands-on experience with multi-core optimization and parallel computing techniques to meet strict L1 latency and throughput demands.
- Cloud-Native Architectures : Demonstrable experience with or strong conceptual understanding of Cloud-Native architectures and associated enabling technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, microservices).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 2 to 9 years of relevant professional experience in L1 software development for wireless base stations (eNodeB/gNB/gNB-DU/CU).
