About Matsya Capital:

Matsya Capital is an investment firm focused on the Indian equity market. Founded in 2012, Matsya is one of the very few investment funds in the country that operates on the traditional US hedge fund model. Founding Partners have several years of investment experience each in public equities and venture capital.

Prior to co-founding Matsya, the Managing Partner worked at two renowned, multi-billion-dollar hedge funds in New York as an Investment Analyst from 2005 until 2012. Matsya endeavours to apply the principles of stock selection practiced at top global hedge funds to the Indian equity market. The strategy of the fund is rooted in fundamental research and investment decisions are based on a medium to long term outlook on the stock and the sector that it operates in. Expertise of the fund lies in seeking mis-understood situations and abnormal stock movements, then conducting in-depth valuation on what is priced in and how that is likely to change. Matsya is a small, but extremely talented team with a very flat organisation structure.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for financial modelling, financial analysis, and forming an investment thesis on the sector the analyst is expected to work on

The candidate will be responsible to track down and analyse every industry/company data point that is available in the public domain

The candidate will be responsible for making presentations and presenting convincing ideas to the whole team

The candidate will also be entrusted with a few administrative responsibilities shared by all members of the team

Key Skills and Requirements

Keen interest in capital markets

Candidate must have the ability to fully understand businesses and the sectors in which they operate

Strong skills in financial modelling, analysing income statements-balance sheet-cash flows and valuing companies

Should have prior experience of building operating and financial models of companies and industries

The candidate must know all the basic principles of equity valuation

Exceptional skills in advanced Excel and PowerPoint

Attention to detail is a way of life at Matsya, and thus should be for the candidate also

Candidate must have 1-2 years of relevant work experience (sell-side or buy-side experience is preferred)
