About the role The Mechanic will be providing engineering assistance for our fleet of DHC6-300 Twin Otter Aircraft and BN2 Islander Aircraft, to maintain the overall performance of the aircraft, maintenance operation and its personnel. This includes, but is not limited to: To assist in the maintenance of aircraft, and aircraft equipment as allocated to their control. This includes line maintenance, and daily operational requirements of the aircraft. Signing for maintenance activities performed during shift operations. The ground movements of aircraft. To ensure the correct and timely completion of all aircraft documentation relating to the maintenance activities performed. Ensure work areas are always kept clean and tidy. Evaluate all existing standards, practices, and procedures with a view to continuous improvement and efficiency Skills, Qualifications and Experience required Previous experience within an aircraft maintenance department is highly desirable. Further to this, any aircraft maintenance experience, base/workshops is also desirable. Experience of engineering of any type may be considered. Successful applicants will graduate to Operations Supervisor on successful completion of a 24-month training period. Skybus is looking for someone who can demonstrate the following skills in the role of Trainee operations Supervisor: Customer service Communication – face to face, telephone and email Attention to detail/ accuracy Teamwork Decision making Problem solving Duties include The Skybus Operations Supervisor is responsible for the Skybus daily flight schedule, liaising with other departments to attain on time departures. Managing any disruption to flights by mitigating the impact to the flight schedule. Communicating any disruption to other departments within the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, third parties and passengers. Completing the next day’s flight schedule, allocating crews and aircraft, compiling payload sheets, completing flight duty records, load sheets and other documents. Utilising the company’s reservation system. Answering passengers’ telephone and email enquiries. Working as a member of the Skybus Operations team, developing good working relationships with other departments within the group, business partners and transport providers. A DBS check will be required on joining the company. Qualifications and requirements A sound general education, good communication and computer skills with the ability to use Excel and Word, you should be flexible towards working hours. Systems training will be provided. Previous airline, logistics or other Operations experience would be an advantage. You must hold Right to Work in the UK. Hours and salary 40 hours a week on a rostered basis. 4 x 10-hour shifts Mon to Sat. Salary will be dependent upon experience with staged increases during the 24-month training period. Responsibilities Primary daily duties will include: Carrying out aircraft starts for departures (ground handling training provided) Ensuring the aircraft utilised for daily flight schedule are cleaned and sanitised as required. This includes but not limited to Windscreens and Passenger windows, exterior, and interior cabin. Manoeuvring of aircraft (ground towing) on stand as required by Air Traffic or operational requirements. (Ground handling training provided) Secondary daily duties to include: Cleaning of aircraft on maintenance. General husbandry of the Maintenance hangars. Cleanliness of floors, bins, maintenance stands, workshops, lifting equipment etc as directed by the Hangar foreman/Engineering Manager.
