Instrumentation Technician

Role & responsibilities

1. Pre-Commissioning & Installation Activities

• Verify installation of all field instruments as per approved drawings and datasheets.
• Carry out 

  instrument mounting, alignment, and tagging

   for transmitters, gauges, switches, analyzers, and control valves.
• Ensure 

  correct impulse line / tubing routing, connection, and leak testing

   for pressure and differential pressure instruments.
• Check 

  cable laying, glanding, and termination

   at field instruments, junction boxes (JB), local control stations (LCS), and panels.
• Assist in installation and wiring of 

  control panels, LCPs, MCC interlocks

  , and communication interfaces.
• Ensure 

  earthing and grounding

   connections for all instruments as per standard practice.
• Verify installation of 

  sensors and probes

   for pH, conductivity, DO (Dissolved Oxygen), flow, and level instruments.

2. Testing & Calibration

• Perform 

  loop checking

   from field instrument to control room (DCS/PLC).
• Conduct 

  instrument calibration

   using standard test equipment (multimeter, pressure calibrator, decade box, etc.).
• Check and calibrate 

  flow, pressure, temperature, and level transmitters

  , switches, and gauges.
• Verify 

  signal integrity

   (420 mA / digital / pulse signals) and ensure correct range configuration.
• Assist in 

  functional testing

   of instruments and interlocks as per the I/O list and cause & effect diagram.
• Record calibration results and maintain calibration certificates.

3. Commissioning Support

• Support commissioning team during 

  cold and hot commissioning

   of the ETP plant.
• Ensure proper operation of 

  field instruments and control valves

   during system start-up.
• Assist in 

  logic and interlock verification

   in coordination with the control system engineer.
• Troubleshoot and rectify 

  signal issues, wiring faults, or sensor malfunctions

  .
• Support 

  instrument tuning

   for flow and pressure control loops.
• Verify 

  alarms, trips, and sequence operations

   for each ETP subsystem (clarifier, aeration, sludge handling, etc.).

4. Documentation & Reporting

• Update 

  as-built drawings

  , loop diagrams, and termination details after installation.
• Maintain 

  instrument calibration and test reports

  .
• Prepare 

  daily progress reports

   and submit to site engineer/supervisor.
• Report 

  material shortfalls, defects, or non-conformances

   immediately for corrective action.
