BacAlt is a cutting-edge biotech startup innovating sustainable biopolymers from bacterial cellulose and poly-gamma glutamic acid (PGA). We seek an experienced Industrial Biotechnologist to drive strain and process optimization, focusing on enhancing yield, metabolic flux, and byproduct management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engineer and optimize microbial strains using molecular biology tools (gene editing, pathway modulation) to boost biopolymer yield and productivity.
  2. Conduct detailed metabolic flux analysis and pathway balancing to identify and resolve bottlenecks in carbon and energy flows.
  3. Develop strategies to minimize byproduct formation and enhance product recovery or purity in fermentation processes.
  4. Apply systems biology and modeling approaches for rational strain improvement and process enhancement.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale successful lab-level improvements toward pilot and industrial-scale production.
  6. Interpret experimental data rigorously to guide iterative design-build-test cycles.
  7. Maintain strict documentation, data analysis, and reporting aligned with scientific and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications:

Master's or PhD in Industrial Biotechnology, Microbial Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field.

  1. Proven industrial experience (4+ years) in improving yields and productivity in microbial or enzymatic production systems.
  2. Strong molecular biology skillset, including manipulation of genetic and regulatory elements to optimize metabolic pathways.
  3. Expertise in metabolic flux analysis, flux balance modeling, and pathway engineering to improve carbon efficiency and reduce byproducts.
  4. Experience in fermentation process development with knowledge of scale-up challenges.
  5. Proficiency in data analysis tools and relevant software for systems biology and flux modeling.
  6. Demonstrated ability to drive yield improvements with measurable outcomes in industrial or pilot settings.
  7. Excellent collaborative and communication skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
