Job Description

As an Industrial Biotechnologist at BacAlt, a cutting-edge biotech startup in Bangalore, India, you will play a crucial role in driving strain and process optimization to enhance yield, metabolic flux, and byproduct management of sustainable biopolymers derived from bacterial cellulose and poly-gamma glutamic acid (PGA). **Key Responsibilities:** - Engineer and optimize microbial strains using molecular biology tools such as gene editing and pathway modulation to increase biopolymer yield and productivity. - Conduct detailed metabolic flux analysis and pathway balancing to identify and resolve bottlenecks in carbon and energy flows. - Develop strategies to minimize byproduct formation and improve product recovery or purity in fermentation processes. - Apply systems biology and modeling approaches for rational strain improvement and process enhancement. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale successful lab-level improvements towards pilot and industrial-scale production. - Interpret experimental data rigorously to guide iterative design-build-test cycles. - Maintain strict documentation, data analysis, and reporting aligned with scientific and regulatory standards. **Required Qualifications:** - Masters or PhD in Industrial Biotechnology, Microbial Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field. - Minimum of 4+ years of proven industrial experience in enhancing yields and productivity in microbial or enzymatic production systems. - Strong molecular biology skillset, including genetic and regulatory element manipulation to optimize metabolic pathways. - Expertise in metabolic flux analysis, flux balance modeling, and pathway engineering to enhance carbon efficiency and reduce byproducts. - Experience in fermentation process development with an understanding of scale-up challenges. - Proficiency in data analysis tools and relevant software for systems biology and flux modeling. - Demonstrated ability to drive yield improvements with measurable outcomes in industrial or pilot settings. - Excellent collaborative and communication skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
