The law firm is looking for a Senior Associate or Counsel to join their Employment Law practice. The ideal candidate should have expertise in Indian labour and employment laws, possess strong client advisory skills, and be capable of leading high-impact mandates across various sectors. This role requires someone who excels in a fast-paced, advisory-heavy environment and is prepared to take charge of complex employment law matters including compliance, advisory, investigations, and contentious issues. Key Responsibilities: - Provide advice to domestic and multinational clients on a range of employment and labour law issues such as employment contracts, HR policies, compensation structures, and termination matters. - Handle industrial disputes, disciplinary proceedings, employee misconduct, POSH compliance, internal investigations, labour law audits, and due diligence for M&A transactions. - Develop workforce structuring, transfers, and retrenchment strategies. - Represent clients before labour authorities, tribunals, and other relevant forums. - Draft and negotiate employment-related documentation and settlement agreements. - Keep updated on Indian employment law developments and contribute to knowledge management initiatives. - Collaborate with various teams including litigation, corporate, and compliance teams. - Supervise and mentor junior associates within the practice. Candidate Profile: - LL.B. from a reputable Indian law school. - 7-12 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a top-tier law firm or leading in-house legal department. - Strong knowledge of Indian labour laws, industrial regulations, and case law developments. - Proficient in legal drafting, research, and analytical skills. - Experience in managing sensitive investigations and employment litigation is a plus. - Business-oriented mindset with excellent client-handling skills. - Ability to handle multiple assignments independently and meet deadlines. - Team player with a collaborative work approach. As a Legal Counsel specializing in employment legal matters in India, you will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice and support for our India operations. Your role will involve partnering closely with various functions such as Human Resources, Employee Relations, Group Investigations, and business clients to deliver quality and practical legal solutions. You will proactively manage employment legal risks and handle contentious employment issues, including employment litigation. Working within the APAC Employment Legal team, you will serve as the India legal counsel based in Pune or Mumbai. Collaborating with a diverse team of lawyers, you will report to the South Asia team lead of APAC Employment Legal. Your expertise as an India qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience will be crucial. Ideally, you should have experience in managing employment legal issues, preferably in the financial services sector, either in private practice or in-house. A strong understanding of Indian labor and employment laws and regulations, especially related to HR operations, investigations, disciplinary actions, and termination scenarios, is essential. You should be a self-motivated individual capable of providing clear, solution-oriented, and practical legal advice aligned with business objectives while ensuring compliance with applicable laws. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, along with the ability to engage and persuade employees at all levels, including senior management. Moreover, your critical thinking, problem-solving, and negotiating skills will be put to the test in addressing a wide range of HR issues. Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to set priorities, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines are necessary. You should also have a curiosity to stay updated on legal and regulatory changes affecting the Indian workforce and the ability to train a non-legal audience on legal concepts or developments in the law. Proficiency in English, both written and oral, is a must, while national and local language proficiency is beneficial.
