InDesign JavaScript Developer

As an InDesign JavaScript Developer at our company, you will play a crucial role in developing robust scripts to automate and enhance publishing workflows within Adobe InDesign. Your responsibilities will include: - Develop and Maintain Scripts: Design, develop, test, and deploy JavaScript (ExtendScript) solutions for Adobe InDesign to automate repetitive tasks, format documents, manage data, and improve overall production efficiency. - Workflow Automation: Analyze current publishing processes and identify opportunities for automation using scripting. Implement custom tools and panels within InDesign to support content creators and designers. - Integration: Develop scripts to facilitate the flow of data between InDesign and external systems (e.g., databases, XML/JSON sources, CMS platforms) for dynamic document generation and output. - Troubleshooting and Support: Provide technical support and resolve complex issues related to script functionality, performance, and compatibility across different InDesign versions and operating systems. - Documentation: Create and maintain thorough documentation for all developed scripts, APIs, and automated workflows. - Collaboration: Work closely with designers, production artists, and IT staff to gather requirements, test solutions, and deploy tools effectively. To excel in this role, you should have the following skills and experience: - Experience: 3 to 5 years of professional experience in developing scripts specifically for Adobe InDesign using ExtendScript (JavaScript). - Adobe InDesign Object Model: Deep understanding and practical application of the InDesign Object Model for manipulating documents, layouts, text, graphics, and styles. - JavaScript Proficiency: Strong foundation in JavaScript (ECMAScript) principles, best practices, and debugging techniques. - Data Handling: Experience with processing and manipulating data formats such as XML, JSON, and plain text within InDesign scripts. - Version Control: Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git, for managing script development. - Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
