Here are some key responsibilities and tasks associated with this role : Patient Evaluation and Diagnosis : Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms and conditions, including taking detailed medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests. Utilize imaging techniques, such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, and imaging studies, to assess the gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal Disorders : Diagnose and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal disorders, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver diseases, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal cancers, and functional gastrointestinal disorders. Develop treatment plans based on the patient's condition, medical history, and diagnostic findings. Endoscopic Procedures : Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, such as upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Conduct tissue biopsies, remove polyps or tumors, and place stents as necessary. Treatment Planning : Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including medication management, dietary modifications, lifestyle changes, and surgical interventions when necessary. Coordinate care with other specialists as required for multidisciplinary management. Hepatology : Provide expertise in hepatology, including the evaluation and management of liver diseases such as viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, non - alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), cirrhosis, and liver transplantation.
