As a Research Technician in the research group of Dr. Emre Sayan at the School of Cancer Sciences, University of Southampton, you will play a crucial role in supporting research activities focused on drug discovery and testing to combat metastatic liver, pancreatic, and neuroendocrine cancers. Your responsibilities will involve utilizing both common and cutting-edge techniques to test the activity of new small molecules in established cancer cell lines and animal models. Techniques such as flow cytometry, western blotting, and immuno-fluorescence will be predominantly utilized along with various molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology methods. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of single gene inducible or stable-inducible gene knock-down cell line models. In this role, you will receive comprehensive hands-on training in all relevant techniques essential for the project. This position not only provides a strong foundational experience for individuals considering a transition to the industry but also supports continuous scientific growth. It is expected that you will acquire a home office personal license within the first 6 months of your appointment. This position is offered on an 80% full-time basis and is fixed-term until December 31st, 2026 initially, with potential opportunities for extension and progression to full-time employment. To excel in this role, you should possess an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, demonstrating a genuine interest in cancer biology and drug discovery. Strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within a team, and experience supervising undergraduate and MSc. students are essential qualities.
