Role & responsibilities & Preferred candidate profile TERMS OF REFERENCE REGISTERED NURSE 1. INTRODUCTION Post: Registered Nurse Post Type: Permanent, full-time (with 3-month probation period) Department: Medical Services Department Location: EyeCare Hospital, Mal 2. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Registered Nurse will report to the Medical Services Manager and is expected to work closely with ophthalmologists, Ophthalmic assistants, nursing assistants, and other healthcare professionals at EyeCare Hospital. 3. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients, addressing their medical, physical, and emotional needs. The role involves assessing patient conditions, planning and implementing care, and coordinating with healthcare professionals to ensure effective treatment delivery. 4. SCOPE OF WORK Assessing patients eye health and providing preoperative, postoperative, and general care. Administering medications, eye drops, and other treatments as prescribed by ophthalmologists in prior to surgery and procedures. Monitoring patients’ conditions, including vital signs and visual acuity, and documenting changes accurately. Assisting ophthalmologists during eye procedures and surgeries by ensuring a sterile environment and providing necessary tools. Performing blood withdrawal as part of routine preoperative checkups. Capable of performing blood withdrawal, preoperative procedures, and assisting in the operating theatre. Providing comfort and emotional support to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Educating patients and their families on eye care, surgical procedures, postoperative instructions, and preventive measures for common eye conditions (e.g., glaucoma, cataracts). Adhering to infection control protocols and maintaining a sterile environment to ensure patient safety. Monitoring for complications and promptly reporting issues to the medical team. Collaborating with ophthalmologists, nursing assistants, and other staff to ensure coordinated patient care. Assisting in diagnostic tests, such as eye pressure measurements and visual assessments. Sharing the workload of colleagues and other staff as needed. Performing any other relevant tasks assigned by the Employer within the scope of work. Ensuring compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements. Safeguarding patient confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion. Any other duties assigned by the Employer within the work scope. 5. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or relevant field. Minimum 2 years of work experience in Hospital, or a relevant field after completion of the Degree. Demonstrated competency in performing blood withdrawal, preoperative procedures, and assisting in the operating theatre. Experience in the Eye Hospital or surgical settings will be an added advantage. Applicants must possess a valid registration and good standing certificate from the Nursing Council in their home country. A minimum IELTS score of 5.5 is required for Maldives Nursing Council registration. 6. DESIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Fluency in written and spoken English.
