Key Responsibilities for ICU Staff Nurse

Patient Care

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in critical condition.
• Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as prescribed by physicians.
• Monitor vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and respiratory rate.
• Operate medical equipment like ventilators, ECG monitors, and infusion pumps.
• Assess and document the patient's condition, response to treatments, and any changes in medical status.
• Ensure infection control practices are followed to maintain patient safety.

Assessment and Monitoring

• Continuously monitor patients for changes in condition and alert the medical team about any urgent issues.
• Perform physical assessments, including neurological and cardiovascular evaluations.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and charts.

Collaboration and Communication

• Collaborate with the medical team, including doctors, respiratory therapists, and other nurses, to develop and implement care plans.
• Communicate effectively with patients' families, providing updates and addressing concerns.
• Provide emotional support to families during critical and end-of-life situations.

Emergency Response

• Respond quickly to life-threatening situations and participate in resuscitation efforts.
• Manage patient airways, administer CPR, or assist with other emergency procedures as needed.

Education and Training

• Educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment plan, and post-discharge care.
• Stay updated on the latest nursing practices and attend training sessions to maintain ICU competencies.

Patient Safety

• Implement and monitor safety protocols to prevent falls, pressure ulcers, and other hospital-acquired conditions.
• Ensure the accurate administration of medications and monitor for adverse reactions.

Documentation and Reporting

• Record all patient interventions, including procedures, medications, and outcomes, in the patient's medical chart.

Ensure accurate and timely reporting of patient information to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
