As a Room Service Attendant (RSA) within the Nutrition Services department at East Campus Dietary, you play a crucial role in providing exceptional quality and service to patients on the designated inpatient floor at the East Campus Medical Center on Alvarado Road. Your primary responsibility is to serve as the main point of contact for meal services for patients, ensuring all interactions meet the high standards of excellence set by the UCSD Health System. Under general supervision, you will deliver personalized customer service with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring patient food selections and preferences are honored. Your duties include timely delivery of meals, snacks, and beverages while adhering to patient identification procedures and diet orders accurately. Proficiency in utilizing current food service ordering software and technology is essential for this role. Your role also involves managing your time efficiently, responding promptly to patient telephone requests, and addressing any concerns related to meal service. You will be responsible for verifying the accuracy of orders, ensuring the quality of presentation, and providing solutions through service recovery when necessary. Striving to exceed patient and Health System expectations, you must uphold departmental policies, Health System core values, and CARING standards at all times. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to you as part of your role within the Nutrition Services team. The successful candidate for this position must have a minimum of two years of professional experience in a quality food or hospitality service operation, or institutional food service role. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience, such as a High School Diploma/GED, will be considered. Proficiency in setting and delivering quality meal service on time and in accordance with hospital standards, along with proven food and beverage knowledge, is required. Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is essential. Additionally, you should exhibit a professional attitude, possess strong hospitality skills, attention to detail, and maintain quality control while ensuring confidentiality and composure in stressful situations. Preferred qualifications for this position include a degree in Nutrition or a related field, as well as training in food and/or hospitality services, particularly room service experience. The ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays, is a special condition of this role. Physical requirements include constant standing, walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry food service trays.
