Hospital Lab Tech II

As a Hospital Lab Tech II at UC San Diego Health, you will be responsible for all pre-and post-analytical activities in the EC Clinical Lab at East Campus Medical Center. Your duties will include supervising staff, problem-solving related to clinical laboratory operations, reviewing and organizing lab test results, establishing specimen collection priorities, processing and distributing specimens for testing, and providing customer service support. You will be required to work variable 8-hour shifts, including weekends, and be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, knowledge of infection control procedures, and proficiency in scientific terminology. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a large complex healthcare organization are essential. The minimum qualifications for this role include a college degree in a natural science field or equivalent education and experience, Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification, at least one year of related lab experience, and proficiency in MS Office applications. Preferred qualifications include expertise in venipuncture and skin puncture, as well as previous leadership experience in a related laboratory position. This position is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical. If employed by UC San Diego, you will be required to comply with the university's Policy on Vaccination Programs. Life-support certifications must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment.
