HOD - Design Technology

The Head of Department (HOD) for Design Technology will lead the Design Technology department, overseeing the delivery of the IB DP Design Technology curricula. Your role involves strategic leadership, curriculum development, and fostering a collaborative, innovative environment to empower students as creative problem-solvers. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the DP Design Technology curricula, ensuring alignment with IB standards and practices. Additionally, you will oversee the integration of the IB design cycle across all year levels, incorporating modern technologies such as CAD software, 3D printing, robotics, and laser cutting to enhance practical and theoretical learning. Your duties will include leading, mentoring, and supporting a team of Design Technology teachers and technicians, managing department resources, teaching Design Technology classes, promoting interdisciplinary connections, guiding students in creating portfolios, and fostering an inclusive environment aligned with IB's mission. Moreover, you will collaborate with other Heads of Department to align the Design Technology curriculum with the school's strategic vision and engage with various stakeholders to promote the department's achievements. Qualifications and Experience: - A Bachelor's degree or Master's in Design Technology, Engineering, or Product Design. - A minimum of 7 years of teaching experience in Design Technology, preferably in an IB school. - Proven leadership experience, ideally as a Head of Department or subject coordinator. - Expertise in resistant materials, electronics, robotics, CAD software, and emerging technologies. - Experience with VEX Robotics, Python programming, or other specialized design technology areas is advantageous.
