2 - Job Summary and Purpose

The Head Propulsion Systems is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, and hands-on supervision of the final installation, alignment, chocking, testing, and commissioning of the vessel's complete Propulsion Train. This critical role covers Main Engines, Gearboxes, Shafting, Propellers, and Steering Gear. The position ensures high-precision mechanical installation conforming to IACS/Class Society standards and manages the technical integration with hull and auxiliary systems.

3 Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Production Planning & Management

Develop detailed installation micro-plans, allocate work to supervisors and teams, and drive the propulsion section to meet project milestones, budget, and man-hour targets. Critical Machinery Installation

Lead the execution of all main machinery installations. Critically supervise optical/laser shaft alignment, stern tube boring, rudder boring, and final resin/metal chocking of main engines and DG sets to ensure stability and geometric precision Outfitting & System Integration

Direct the hook-up and integrity testing of auxiliary systems critical to the propulsion train (Fuel, Lube Oil, Cooling, Hydraulics, Control systems), ensuring seamless integration. Quality & Class Compliance

Ensure all installation, welding, and alignment procedures strictly adhere to Class Society rules (IRS, LRS, ABS, etc.) and the project's Quality Assurance Plan (QAP). Coordinate third-party inspections and maintain full documentation for certification. Testing & Trials

Lead pre-commissioning checks, manage preparations and execution of the Basin Trials (BT). Provide expert supervision and troubleshooting support for the propulsion unit during final Sea Trials (STW/CST) until vessel acceptance Operational Oversight & QHSE

Monitor installation progress, utilize SAP/ERP systems for tracking materials and progress, resolve technical challenges on the floor, and strictly enforce Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) standards.

4 Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Mechanical, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture (mandatory).

Certification in Project Management or Class/Quality standards is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

12 to 18 years of relevant experience in the Shipbuilding / Ship Repair industry, with a minimum of 6-8 years in a senior/managerial role directly responsible for high-precision machinery installation and trials.

Functional and Behavioural Competency:

Expert knowledge in large marine engine installation, precision optical/laser alignment techniques, stern tube/rudder stock boring, and resin chocking procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of IACS/Class Rules and shipyard production planning.

Strong Leadership and team management skills. Exceptional Coordination and stakeholder man
