Job Description: Planning Engineer – Civil (Industrial Construction) Position: Planning Engineer – Civil Experience: 7–10 Years Industry: Industrial Construction (Factories, Warehouses, Plants, EPC Projects, Heavy Civil Works, Greenfield and Brownfield) Location: Pune, Ranjangaon, Shambhajinagar, Chakan, Talegaon, Shirwal Reporting To: Site Construction Manager 1. Job Purpose To develop, monitor, and control project schedules, resource plans, and progress reporting for industrial civil construction projects. The Planning Engineer ensures timely project execution by coordinating with site teams, engineering, procurement, and management. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Project Planning & Scheduling Prepare baseline project schedules using MSP based on drawings, quantities, BOQ, and contract scope. Develop Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), activity sequences, and critical path. Prepare resource-loaded schedules for manpower, materials, and equipment. Prepare look-ahead programs (1-week, 2-week, monthly). B. Progress Monitoring & Control Monitor daily/weekly/monthly progress and compare actual vs. planned. Identify deviations, delays, and risks impacting schedule. Update project schedules and maintain as-built records. Conduct critical path and delay impact analysis regularly. C. Reporting & Documentation Generate periodic MIS reports, dashboards, and progress presentations. Maintain all planning-related documentation, logs, and records. Prepare productivity analysis and variance reports. Prepare and submit delay analysis, extension-of-time (EoT) supporting documents as required. Making. Monitoring and improving S curve analysis D. Resource & Material Planning Prepare material requirement plans (MRP) based on project demand. Coordinate with procurement for timely availability of materials. Forecast manpower/equipment needs and monitor utilization vs. plan. E. Coordination & Communication Coordinate with engineering, procurement, QA/QC, and site execution teams for schedule alignment. Attend internal and external meetings for progress review (daily, weekly, monthly) Present schedule updates, bottlenecks, and mitigation proposals to management. Coordinate with subcontractors for planning inputs and progress reporting. F. Risk Management & Mitigation Identify potential risks, constraints, and delays. Prepare recovery schedules and catch-up plans. (mitigation plan) Recommend corrective actions to Project Manager. 3. Required Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of project planning and control techniques. Hands-on experience in MS Project. Excellent analytical and forecasting abilities. Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and data-driven reporting (preferred). Strong understanding of industrial civil construction activities (foundations, RCC, structural, utilities, external development, etc.). Knowledge of contractual requirements and EoT processes. Must be able to articulate the tender terms and conditions while making EoT claims Strong communication, coordination, and presentation skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 4. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BE/B.Tech). Hands on with MSP (mandatory). 7–10 years of relevant experience in planning for industrial construction projects. 5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Schedule adherence and accuracy. Quality of progress monitoring and reporting. Timeliness in identifying delays and proposing mitigation. Accuracy of resource and material planning. Internal and client satisfaction with planning deliverables. 6. Additional Requirements (If Applicable) Experience in fast-track industrial or EPC projects. Exposure to cost control and budgeting (added advantage). Willingness to travel and work from site as required. KPI for Planning Engineer – Civil (Industrial Construction, 7–10 Years Experience) 1. Project Planning & Scheduling Baseline Schedule Preparation Accuracy Quality, completeness, and logic of baseline schedules submitted within agreed timelines. Target: 100% alignment with project scope, drawings, BOQ, and contract requirements. Schedule Update Timeliness Frequency and punctuality of weekly/fortnightly/monthly schedule updates. Target: 100% updates submitted by due date. Schedule Variance Monitoring Ability to identify critical path delays and variances proactively. Target: Delay identification and reporting within 48 hours of occurrence. 2. Progress Monitoring & Reporting Accuracy of Progress Measurement Correct physical progress calculation using WBS, weightage, and approved measurement norms. Target: ±2% deviation between reported and actual site progress. Quality of MIS/Reports Clarity, completeness, and analysis depth in daily/weekly/monthly reports. Target: Zero remarks due to incomplete or inaccurate reporting. Dashboards & Analytics Utilization Use of analytical tools (Excel, Primavera, Power BI, etc.) to enhance reporting quality. Target: Implementation of at least one dashboard/tool for automated reporting. 3. Resource Planning & Optimization Material Planning Accuracy Timely generation of material requirement plans (MRP) based on schedule. Target: 0% delays in material procurement caused by planning errors. Manpower & Equipment Forecasting Realistic resource loading and levelling aligned with schedule. Target: Deviation not exceeding ±5% from planned resource requirements. Cost vs. Schedule Alignment Support in maintaining productivity and controlling time-related costs. Target: Monthly variance explanation with actionable recommendations. 4. Coordination & Communication Interdepartmental Coordination Efficiency Timeliness and effectiveness of coordination with engineering, procurement, and site teams. Target: 90%+ issues resolved within planned timelines. Client & Consultant Interaction Professional presentation of schedule, progress, and delay analysis. Target: Zero escalations due to poor communication or unpreparedness. 5. Risk Management & Mitigation Risk Identification & Logging Timely identification of schedule-related risks and constraints. Target: All critical risks logged within one reporting cycle. Mitigation Proposal Quality Practical, implementable solutions for delay mitigation and recovery schedules. Target: Acceptance/approval of at least 80% of proposed mitigation measures. 6. Contractual & Documentation Control Alignment with Contractual Requirements Compliance with planning deliverables as per contract/SOW. Target: 100% contractual submissions on time. Extension of Time (EoT) Support Preparation of delay analysis, substantiation, and event logs. Target: All EoT submissions completed with complete documentation. 7. Software & Technical Proficiency MSP Proficiency Quality of schedule logic, coding, WBS structure, and reporting. Target: Zero technical remarks on schedule from internal or external audits. Digital Tools Usage Use of spreadsheets, Power BI, ERP, or other tools for analytics and reporting. Target: Minimum one continuous improvement initiative annually. 8. Safety, Quality & Compliance (Planning Perspective) Incorporation of Safety Milestones Integration of HSE requirements into schedule. Target: 100% compliance with safety planning requirements. Quality Checks Integration Inclusion of inspection/test plan milestones and hold points. Target: Zero missed ITP-related planning tasks.
