Job Summary: The Skin Graft Technician is responsible for assisting in the preparation, processing, and application of skin grafts in surgical and clinical settings. This role involves working closely with surgeons, nurses, and laboratory staff to ensure optimal outcomes and adherence to safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities: 1. Skin Graft Preparation & Processing: Assist in the harvesting, processing, and storage of skin grafts. Ensure proper handling of graft materials to maintain sterility and viability. Operate and maintain equipment used in graft processing. 2. Surgical Assistance: Prepare skin grafts for application in surgical procedures. Assist surgeons during grafting procedures as needed. Ensure all required tools and materials are available before procedures. 3. Quality Control & Compliance: Adhere to sterile techniques and infection control protocols. Maintain accurate documentation of procedures and graft details. Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and hospital policies. 4. Equipment & Inventory Management: Maintain and sterilize instruments and equipment used in skin grafting. Ensure sufficient stock of grafting materials and supplies. Coordinate with procurement for inventory replenishment. Qualifications & Requirements: Experience: Prior experience in skin grafting, tissue banking, or surgical assistance is preferred. Skills: Knowledge of skin grafting techniques and sterilization protocols. Proficiency in handling medical instruments and equipment. Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards. They ensure quality control, regulatory compliance, and proper documentation of donor history and tissue testing. The role involves operating specialized equipment, maintaining inventory, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to meet surgical needs. Additionally, they uphold safety standards, manage work environments, and train staff on best practices in tissue processing. Primary Responsibilities: Processing Allografts: Perform allograft tissue recovery procedures, including cleaning, preparing, and sterilizing the bone tissue for transplantation. Ensure proper documentation of all tissue processing, including donor history, consent, and testing results. Use appropriate sterilization techniques to prevent contamination and ensure graft safety. Operate specialized equipment to process and preserve bone tissue (e.g., bone mills, demineralization systems, freeze-dryers). Quality Control and Compliance: Follow strict regulatory and industry guidelines (e.g., AATB, FDA, and other relevant standards) to maintain the quality and safety of the bone allografts. Perform rigorous testing and screening on donor tissues for diseases, infections, and other risks before processing. Maintain detailed records of all procedures and comply with all state and federal regulations concerning tissue donation and processing. Participate in internal audits and inspections to ensure adherence to all standards. Inventory Management: Track inventory of all processed bone allografts and materials used in processing. Assist with storage and distribution of bone grafts, ensuring proper labeling, organization, and shelf-life monitoring. Ensure that grafts are ready for surgical procedures in accordance with medical team needs and timeframes. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to understand specific needs for bone grafts in medical procedures. Communicate effectively with donor agencies, healthcare providers, and transplant teams to ensure timely and safe delivery of grafts. Provide technical support to clinicians on proper handling and utilization of bone allografts during surgeries. Maintaining Equipment and Work Environment: Regularly inspect and maintain equipment used in the tissue processing procedures. Keep work areas clean, sterile, and well-organized in compliance with safety and health regulations.
