Why You: The Senior Database Administrator will work as part of a team to supply complete support for all aspects of managed database and application infrastructure operations to a variety of Pythian's customers. What you will be doing: Coordination, analysis, design, implementation, and administration of database solutions, including database server configuration and maintenance. Analyzing customer's infrastructure and processes and recommending to customers, best practices for improvements to current operational processes and procedures to ensure that databases remain operational for maximum uptime and recoverability. Administration of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans, provides proactive monitoring to head off potential issues before they become incidents, responds to monitoring alerts, and carries out troubleshooting of operational problems. Overseeing of backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and restoration and recovery of corrupted databases, develops and reviews action plans (such as maintenance, deployment, upgrades, etc.), and completes all relevant client documentation. Develop a thorough understanding of all relevant customer information including warnings, handoffs, briefing notes, etc. Assists the Lead Database Consultant with respect to Incident Management, Problem Management and Problem Resolution, implements Changes and Service Requests, and designs/implements technical procedures for complex changes. Prepare customer status and incident reports, responding to customer requests and enquiries, and maintains alignment with a customer's operating procedures. e.g., change control, follows hourly requirements of customer allotments and alerts Team Lead to any pacing concerns. Maintain any customer specific assets such as soft or hard access tokens, access cards and any other hard or soft asset provided. Takes a lead role in the teams maintenance and alignment of Pythian process requirements including, handovers, documentation and process acknowledgements, and incident reviews. Enhancement of Pythian tools and processes, suggesting and possibly designs/implements new monitoring checks, enhancements to DBA toolkits, and other process improvements such as Initial Reviews, Performance Reviews, Audits, etc. Participate in sales support activities such as presales, proposal preparation and tech calls etc. Take on a lead role in contributing to Pythian's external profile in the preparation of marketing collateral including web site material and presentations at conferences or trade shows, participate in local user groups and be active on the technology blogging front. What you bring: 5 to 8 years of database administration experience managing Oracle databases (including Oracle RAC) , Basics of Oracle Exadata with good foundational understanding of Oracle database technologies. As a Senior Oracle DBA with experience in Goldengate, you will be responsible for managing Oracle databases and ensuring their optimal performance. With a minimum of 8 years of Oracle Database experience, including expertise in Oracle RAC and AWR Review, you will also have a strong background in standby database setup and support. Your role will involve working with Goldengate replication, with at least 6 years of experience in this area. Additionally, you should have at least 3 years of experience with AWS Technologies such as RDS (Oracle and Aurora), Redshift, and S3. In this position, you will be expected to excel in performance tuning of Oracle Databases and Goldengate, ensuring that they operate efficiently and effectively. Experience with Exadata, ZFS, standby setup with broker configuration, and Goldengate with big data adapter would be considered advantageous. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include actively participating in the Database Engineering team of a global Life Sciences company while being fully remote within India, preferably in the Bangalore area. Implement conflict detection and resolution in multi-master replication environments. Deploy, configure, and optimize Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP) and Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) on OCI. Implement automated performance tuning, auto-scaling, and security policies for ATP & ADW. Utilize Oracle Machine Learning (OML) features in 23ai ADW for data analytics and AI-driven insights. Ensure seamless data integration, migration, and replication between ATP, ADW, and on-prem databases. Deploy and manage OCI-based database services, including DBaaS, Exadata, and Oracle Autonomous Database. Configure OCI networking, IAM roles, security groups, and database encryption. Automate database provisioning and management using Terraform, Ansible, or OCI CLI. Implement database migration strategies using OCI Data Transfer, Data Pump, or GoldenGate Cloud Service. Install, configure, and manage Oracle databases (19c, 21c, and 23ai ATP/ADW) in OCI environments. Perform database performance tuning, indexing, and optimization for high efficiency. Implement backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and OCI Backup Service. Ensure high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) with Data Guard, Flashback, and OCI-based solutions. Conduct database patching, security updates, and vulnerability assessments. If you possess 10+ years of experience in Oracle Database Administration and Engineering, expertise in Oracle GoldenGate (OGG), hands-on experience with Oracle 23ai ATP and ADW, strong knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, query optimization, and database tuning, experience with RMAN, Data Guard, and OEM, hands-on experience with OCI-based database solutions and Terraform/Ansible for automation, familiarity with cloud networking, security policies, and IAM roles in OCI, then you are the ideal candidate for this position.
