GIS Internship Program

Ruthvik Infotech GIS 3 Month Internship:

Objective:

To provide hands-on training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), focusing on spatial data management, analysis, and visualization, enabling participants to apply GIS tools to real-world problems.

Month 1: Foundation & Tools

Focus: Basics of GIS, Data Handling, Software Skills

• Introduction to GIS concepts: spatial vs. non-spatial data, raster vs. vector.
• Overview of GIS applications in urban planning, environment, utilities, etc.
• Software training: QGIS/ArcGIS (installation, interface, data import/export).
• Data sources: open data, satellite imagery, shapefiles, geodatabases.
• Basic map creation & symbology.
• Mini project: Create thematic maps (land use, population, water resources).

Month 2: Spatial Analysis & Remote Sensing

Focus: Analytical Skills & Practical Exposure

• Spatial analysis: buffering, overlay, network analysis.
• Georeferencing maps & digitization.
• Introduction to Remote Sensing (RS): satellite imagery, resolution, sensors.
• Image classification techniques (supervised, unsupervised).
• GPS basics: field data collection and integration into GIS.
• Mini project: Land cover mapping using satellite imagery.

Month 3: Applications & Project Work

Focus: Industry Applications & Capstone Project

• GIS in urban planning, disaster management, agriculture, and the environment.
• Web GIS introduction (ArcGIS Online,).
• Group Project:
• Choose a domain (e.g., flood risk mapping, site suitability, traffic analysis).
• Collect and process data.
• Perform spatial analysis.
• Prepare final maps, reports, and presentation.

Job Type: Internship
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: ₹5,000.00 - ₹10,000.00 per month
