Genomics / Biomedical + Java development

As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Java with Genomics/BioMedical domain, you will be responsible for collaborating with scientists to understand requirements and develop data analysis strategies. Your key responsibilities will include: - Implementing bioinformatics data integration and analysis pipelines for NGS and traditional Sanger sequencing data using Java and other appropriate scripting languages. - Developing visualization environments in reporting tools to enable scientists to explore data and answer questions. - Presenting results and methods in both written and verbal formats. - Leading the initial design and development of new software, defining technical requirements, and creating high-level architectural specifications. - Representing the team in cross-organizational forums, customer requirements gathering, and software validation and training sessions. - Providing functional and technical support to colleagues, utilizing your extensive experience and judgment to understand and resolve complex problems efficiently. - Participating in training and orienting new software engineers joining the team. Qualifications required for this role include: - 6+ years of experience in building world-class software solutions leveraging genomic data for the betterment of human life. - Exposure to genomics, experimental data processing, high-throughput data analysis, and genomic databases. - Strong computational skills in data parsing, cleansing, modeling, analysis, and database design. - Knowledge of Unix/Linux and experience with cluster computing. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Previous bioinformatics and scientific programming experience. - Deep understanding of object-oriented design and programming. - Expertise in developing multi-tier, scalable, and browser-based applications, with AWS experience preferred. - 3+ years of hands-on experience with Java, other languages like C++, Python, or R will be considered. - Familiarity with scripting languages like Perl and Bash. - Enthusiasm for testing and testability, along with a proactive and risk-taking attitude. - Ability to work with geographically distributed teams and a strong motivation for self-learning. - BS/MS in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent technical disciplines.
