You are a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Gemstone Assorter responsible for evaluating, classifying, and sorting gemstones based on various characteristics like quality, size, color, and shape, particularly focusing on Semi-Precious Stones. Your expertise in gemology and experience working with both precious and semi-precious stones is crucial to ensure that quality standards are maintained for jewelry manufacturing or resale. Your main responsibilities include examining and categorizing gemstones based on attributes such as shape, size, clarity, cut, and color related to Semi-Precious Stones. You will use gemological tools and techniques to identify different types of gemstones and classify them according to internal grading systems or specific customer requirements. Your role involves detecting flaws, inclusions, or irregularities that may impact the value of stones and ensuring consistency in color and size when matching gemstones for sets or jewelry pieces. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and inventory of sorted gemstones and collaborating with gemologists, jewelers, designers, or procurement teams. To excel in this position, you should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with certification or training in gemology (e.g., GIA, IGI) being preferred. A minimum of 1 year of experience in gemstone sorting, quality control, or jewelry manufacturing is required. Excellent vision, attention to detail, knowledge of gemstone types, properties, and valuation factors, as well as manual dexterity and precision in handling small objects are essential qualities for this role. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills are also crucial to effectively manage gemstone assorting tasks. Preferred qualifications for this position include experience with colored gemstones, familiarity with using gemological tools such as loupe, microscope, and spectroscope, knowledge of industry grading systems (e.g., GIA, AGS), and basic computer skills for data entry and inventory tracking.
