Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and inventory of sorted gemstones and collaborating with gemologists, jewelers, designers, or procurement teams. To excel in this position, you should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with certification or training in gemology (e.g., GIA, IGI) being preferred. A minimum of 1 year of experience in gemstone sorting, quality control, or jewelry manufacturing is required. Excellent vision, attention to detail, knowledge of gemstone types, properties, and valuation factors, as well as manual dexterity and precision in handling small objects are essential qualities for this role. Strong organizational and record-keeping skills are also crucial to effectively manage gemstone assorting tasks. Preferred qualifications for this position include experience with colored gemstones, familiarity with using gemological tools such as loupe, microscope, and spectroscope, knowledge of industry grading systems (e.g., GIA, AGS), and basic computer skills for data entry and inventory tracking.
