Job Summary:

The Gas Plant Technician is responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of medical gas systems within the hospital. These include oxygen generation and supply systems, vacuum systems, medical air compressors, nitrous oxide, and other related utilities. The technician ensures compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards and supports critical care delivery by ensuring continuous and safe gas supply.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor hospital gas plant equipment including oxygen generation plants, vacuum pumps, air compressors, and gas manifolds.
• Perform routine inspection, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of all gas systems.
• Ensure uninterrupted gas supply to all hospital units including ICUs, OTs, wards, and emergency departments.
• Maintain logs and records of gas usage, cylinder inventory, and equipment performance.
• Coordinate with gas suppliers for refilling and replacement of gas cylinders.
• Ensure adherence to all safety procedures and regulations regarding storage, handling, and usage of medical gases.
• Respond promptly to gas supply issues or alarms, including after-hours emergencies.
• Participate in audits and quality checks of the medical gas pipeline systems (MGPS).
• Assist with the installation, testing, and commissioning of new gas systems or equipment.
• Train hospital staff on basic safety and operation protocols related to medical gases.
• Support biomedical and engineering teams in maintaining other critical systems as needed.

Qualifications:

• Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field.
• Technical training in Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS) preferred.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in a healthcare facility or industrial gas plant.
• Knowledge of hospital safety standards, particularly those related to medical gas systems.
• Ability to read technical drawings and operation manuals.
• Strong problem-solving and mechanical skills.

Skills and Competencies:

• Familiarity with gas plant operations (oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, etc.)
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to handle emergencies and work under pressure.
