Role Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Area Sales Manager to oversee the sales and marketing activities for our apparel/saree collections. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the apparel industry, particularly in Indian wear, and will be responsible for ensuring sales in the designated geographical area. The role is based out of Kolkata and involves working six days (Monday to Saturday) at site. Key Responsibilities 1. Strength in Distribution / General Trade Territory Distribution Management : Manage and grow a robust general trade network within the assigned territory, ensuring optimal coverage, outlet servicing, and product availability across towns and clusters Distributor Onboarding & Management : Identify potential distributors and onboard them in line with company criteria. Regularly monitor distributor health, performance, and adherence to company policies (e.g., order frequency, stock hygiene, secondary sales reporting) Field Execution & Sales Activation : Ensure strong ground-level execution of beat plans, promotional campaigns, product launches, and trade schemes in the general trade channel through daily engagement with distributor sales reps (DSRs) and retail partners Retail Market Expansion : Identify white spaces and underpenetrated areas; work with distributors to expand retail reach and increase numeric distribution 2. Trade Relationship Management Retailer & Dealer Engagement : Build and maintain strong relationships with key retailers, shop owners, and local influencers to foster trust and ensure sustained product movement and brand preference Trade Feedback & Insights : Act as the eyes and ears of the company on the ground capturing competitor activities, price movements, customer feedback, and retail-level issues to inform zonal strategy Trade Scheme Execution : Ensure timely and effective communication and implementation of trade promotions and incentive schemes at both distributor and retail levels, with proper tracking and feedback 3. Hybrid Distribution Channel Management Multi-Channel Field Management : Manage multiple channel types across the area including traditional distributors, dealer networks, DODO retail points, and agent-driven sales ensuring each channel operates with clarity, alignment, and minimum conflict Channel Segmentation & Support : Work with each channel partner according to their unique operating model from driving sell-through at DODO outlets to managing order booking through agents and servicing retail counters via distributors Executional Discipline Across Channels : Ensure consistent implementation of brand guidelines, sales processes, trade offers, and stock servicing standards across all partner types 4. Remittance Control Credit Monitoring : Track distributor and dealer payment cycles closely to ensure timely remittance and maintain credit discipline across all accounts in the area Over dues Follow-up : Proactively follow up on outstanding payments, resolve disputes on billing/discounts, and escalate chronic overdue issues to the ZSM/Finance team when necessary Payment Documentation & Reporting : Maintain accurate records of remittance schedules, credit notes, and outstanding ledgers. Coordinate closely with the finance team to ensure seamless account reconciliation Distributor Financial Hygiene : Monitor the working capital behavior of partners and flag early signs of stress to avoid defaults or disruption in market operations 5.
