Position Overview:

The Functional Testing Engineer will be responsible for planning, executing, and documenting functional tests for aerospace and defence systems, subsystems, and components.

This role ensures that all mechanical, electrical, and software-integrated systems meet design specifications, regulatory standards, and customer requirements before deployment.

Skills & Competencies:

• Proficiency in interpreting system requirements, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Strong understanding of aerospace/defence systems (mechanical, electrical, and software integration).
• Hands-on experience with instrumentation, calibration, and test automation tools.
• Data analysis skills using tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex integrated systems.
• Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Planning & Preparation

• Interpret engineering drawings, requirements, and test specifications to develop functional test plans and procedures.
• Define test setups, instrumentation requirements, and environmental conditions for testing.
• Coordinate with design, production, and quality teams to ensure readiness for testing.

Functional Test Execution

• Perform functional tests on aerospace/defence systems (e.g., avionics, hydraulics, propulsion, mechanical assemblies, weapon systems).
• Use specialized test equipment, simulation tools, and data acquisition systems.
• Execute tests under various operational and environmental conditions (vibration, thermal, EMC, etc.).

Data Collection & Analysis

• Record test data accurately, ensuring traceability to requirements and components.
• Analyse results to identify performance issues, non-conformances, or potential improvements.
• Recommend corrective actions in collaboration with engineering teams.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Ensure tests are conducted in accordance with AS9100, ISO 17025, and relevant MIL-STD / DO-160 / RTCA standards.
• Maintain documentation for regulatory, customer, and internal audits.

Continuous Improvement

• Suggest process improvements to reduce test cycle times and enhance accuracy.
• Support development of automated test scripts and tools where applicable.

Safety & Regulatory Adherence

• Follow all aerospace and defence safety protocols, including ESD handling and PPE usage.
• Comply with ITAR, EAR, and local defence export control regulations.

Certifications (Preferred):

• AS9100 Quality Management awareness.
• DO-178C (software) / DO-254 (hardware) testing knowledge for avionics.
• IPC/WHMA-A-620 or equivalent harness assembly inspection training.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelors degree in electrical / Electronics / Aerospace Engineering, or related field (Diploma with extensive experience may be considered)

• Experience:
• (3-7) years in functional/system testing in aerospace, defence

• Experience with environmental testing (vibration, thermal, EMI/EMC)
