Job Purpose:

To perform mechanical fitting, maintenance, and repair work related to furnace equipment and associated machinery in the Ferro Alloys plant. The Fitter ensures smooth operation, minimal downtime, and compliance with safety and quality standards in the Furnace Department.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out routine, preventive, and breakdown maintenance of furnace mechanical systems (e.g., shell, tapping system, electrode columns, cooling water lines, gearboxes, hydraulic systems).
  
• Dismantle, inspect, repair, and assemble furnace equipment and related mechanical components.
  
• Ensure alignment, fitting, and installation of mechanical parts and assemblies.
  
• Maintain and repair pipelines, valves, pumps, compressors, and other auxiliary equipment used in the furnace area.
  
• Support shutdown and major maintenance activities, including overhauling of furnace mechanical components.
  
• Collaborate with electrical and production teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  
• Follow maintenance schedules and complete maintenance logs, reports, and checklists accurately.
  
• Comply with all plant safety standards and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  
• Participate in root cause analysis of equipment failures and suggest corrective actions.
  
• Assist in maintaining spare parts and tool inventory related to furnace maintenance.
  

Qualifications & Experience:

• Education:

  ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Fitter or equivalent.

• Experience:

• Minimum

  3 years

  of experience as a Fitter in a

  Ferro Alloys / Steel Plant / Heavy Industrial Furnace

  environment.
• Experience with

  Submerged Arc Furnaces (SAF)

  or similar high-temperature operations preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of mechanical fitting, assembly, and maintenance practices.
  
• Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  
• Understanding of furnace mechanical components and cooling systems.
  
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  
• Awareness of safety standards and good housekeeping practices.
  
• Teamwork, discipline, and readiness to work in shifts or under emergency conditions.
  

Work Environment:

• Plant-based role; exposure to heat, noise, and dust.
  
• Shift-based operation, including nights and weekends as per production schedule.

• Equipment uptime and maintenance completion rate.
  
• Reduction in unplanned breakdowns.
  
• Compliance with maintenance schedules and safety standards.
