Fitter (DRI/Sponge Iron)

Fitter in a sponge iron (Direct Reduced Iron - DRI) unit installs, maintains, and repairs the mechanical equipment and systems of the plant, ensuring smooth and safe operation. Responsibilities include installing crushers, conveyors, and pumps; performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance; diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues; adhering to safety protocols; and keeping maintenance records. This role requires an ITI or equivalent mechanical fitter qualification, 3+ years of experience (preferably in steel plants), proficiency with technical drawings, strong problem-solving abilities, and physical fitness.
Key Responsibilities

• Installation and Assembly:Install mechanical components and systems, including machinery, structural metal products, and related parts.
• Maintenance:Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance, perform corrective maintenance, and carry out maintenance during planned shutdowns.
• Repair:Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical equipment such as pumps, crushers, and coolers to minimize production downtime.
• Inspections:Perform regular inspections of machinery and plant systems to identify potential issues before they lead to failures.
• Safety Compliance:Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment for themselves and others.
• Record Keeping:Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and equipment performance.
• Collaboration:Work with team members and other departments to improve operational processes and ensure efficiency.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Education:ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certification or an equivalent qualification in mechanical fitting.
• Experience:A minimum of 3 years of relevant industrial experience, ideally within a steel or sponge iron plant.
• Technical Proficiency:Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and mechanical drawings.
