Fire Protection system -Engineer

Job Summary

The Fire Protection System Designer is responsible for preparing detailed design drawings, layouts, hydraulic calculations, and documentation for fire protection systems in compliance with relevant codes and client specifications. This role supports engineering and project teams in delivering safe, code-compliant, and cost-effective designs across a range of projects, including commercial buildings, industrial plants, oil & gas, data centres, and infrastructure facilities.

Location

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare design drawings (layouts, sections, details) for:
  • Fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry, pre-action)
  • Hydrant and hose reel systems
  • Fire suppression systems (e.g., FM-200, Novec 1230, CO?, IG-541)
  • Deluge systems and foam-based protection
  • Fire pump rooms and water storage tanks
• Perform hydraulic calculations using software (e.g.,

  , etc) to size piping and ensure system performance.
• Generate Bill of Quantities (BOQ), material take-offs (MTO), and datasheets.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, civil, instrumentation).
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, NBC, HCIS, FM Global, and project/client-specific standards.
• Support preparation and review of technical submittals, IFC/shop drawings, and as-built documentation.
• Attend design review meetings, site coordination calls, and support site execution/commissioning when required.

Codes & Standards:

• Ensure all designs comply with Indian standards and codes such as IS, OSID, NFPA, UL, FM and local authority requirements.

Required Skills:

• Strong knowledge of NFPA codes (especially NFPA 13, 14, 20, 72, 2001).
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit (preferred), and hydraulic calculation tools.
• Experience with fire alarm interface logic and F&G systems.
• Familiar with international and local fire safety codes and standards.
• Good communication and coordination skills.

Construction & Commissioning Support:

• Provide technical support to site teams during construction, installation, and commissioning.

Coordination & Communication:

• Interface with clients, consultants, AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction), and internal stakeholders.
• Interact with internal discipline (Process, Electrical, Instrumentation etc).
• Attend design review meetings, HAZOPs, and project kick-off sessions etc.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education

Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Fire Engineering or related field.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit etc.
• Strong knowledge of fire codes and regulatory requirements.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Team player with proactive coordination skills.

Experience:

• 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in fire protection system design and engineering, preferably in Industrial projects.
