Fabrication Workshop Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Setup & Commissioning:

• Plan, design, and oversee the complete setup of a new fabrication workshop
• Recommend and install required fabrication machinery (shearing, bending, welding, grinding, etc.)
• Develop layout, workflow, and safety procedures for smooth operations

Production & Supervision:

• Lead and supervise all in-house fabrication activities
• Ensure timely execution of jobs with optimal manpower and machine utilisation
• Oversee vendor-supplied machined parts, ensuring they meet design and quality standards
• Coordinate with design and production teams to execute custom and batch jobs effectively

Quality Control & Standards:

• Implement and maintain QC procedures for all fabricated and machined metal parts
• Conduct regular inspection of dimensions, weld quality, surface finish, tolerances, etc.
• Maintain inspection documentation and quality records for traceability
• Approve or reject incoming third-party components based on quality checks

Team & Vendor Coordination:

• Train and guide shop-floor technicians and welders on process adherence and quality standards
• Coordinate with external machining vendors and ensure they meet required quality benchmarks
• Collaborate with procurement and production for timely supply and delivery of components

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in fabrication and metalworking
• Strong knowledge of fabrication equipment, welding processes (MIG/TIG), and mechanical drawings
• Proficiency in using measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
• Familiarity with QC methods for both fabricated and precision-machined components
• Ability to lead a team and coordinate with multiple departments and vendors
• Knowledge of safety and compliance standards in workshop environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience setting up a fabrication unit from scratch
• Exposure to ISO or similar quality standards
• Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM and production planning software
