As a Patent Attorney Intern , you will play a key role in supporting our legal and intellectual property (IP) team by researching existing patents, performing patent audits, and identifying potential patentable innovations within our SaaS products. You will assist in the patent drafting process, work closely with our attorneys to help prepare patent applications, and ensure compliance with patent laws. This internship will provide exposure to a dynamic legal environment, as well as valuable experience in patent law, particularly in the context of technology and SaaS. Key Responsibilities Patent Research & Analysis: Conduct comprehensive research to identify existing patents related to our SaaS solutions and technologies. Analyze the patent landscape, including competitors' patents and emerging technologies, to identify potential gaps and opportunities for patent filings. Perform patentability searches and Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analyses to assess the risk of infringement on existing patents. Patent Audits & Innovation Identification: Assist in auditing our SaaS product portfolio to identify features, methods, or technologies that may be patentable. Collaborate with engineering, product, and R&D teams to understand innovations and assist in identifying patentable ideas. Drafting & Writing: Help prepare patent applications, including writing technical descriptions, claims, and diagrams. Assist in drafting patent content in a clear, concise, and legally sound manner, under the supervision of senior attorneys. Review and edit patent documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with patent law standards. Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with in-house attorneys to support ongoing patent applications and filings. Coordinate with external patent counsel, where necessary, to manage the patent prosecution process. Communicate with cross-functional teams to gather technical details for patent applications and ensure the correct interpretation of innovations. Monitoring & Reporting: Assist in tracking patent portfolios and deadlines. Prepare and maintain reports on patent application statuses, audits, and research findings. Legal & Compliance Support: Help ensure our SaaS products and solutions comply with applicable IP laws. Assist with IP-related due diligence in the event of mergers, acquisitions, or partnerships. Qualifications Education: Pursuing a J.D. with a major or strong focus in Intellectual Property Law, Patent Law, or a related field. A background in engineering, computer science, software development, or a related technical field is highly preferred (or coursework focusing on patent law for software technologies). Ideally, the candidate should be working towards obtaining their Patent Bar qualification, though this is not a requirement. Experience: Prior experience or coursework related to patent law, intellectual property rights, and/or patent prosecution. Familiarity with patent research databases (e.g., USPTO, Google Patents, Espacenet, etc.) and patent search tools. Experience or interest in working with software, SaaS, or technology-based solutions is highly desirable. Skills: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and explain them clearly and concisely. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Additional Requirements: A keen interest in intellectual property, patent law, and technology. Self-motivated with a proactive and problem-solving attitude.
