Position Summary As the Group Director of Software Engineering for Runtime Platforms at Walmart Global Tech, you will be at the helm of foundational platform transformation. This is a high-impact leadership role overseeing the design, development, and global delivery of Walmart's next-generation Runtime and Traffic Management platforms. You will lead a global team responsible for critical platform functionscontainer and VM management, configuration and secrets, and all ingress/egress traffic for Walmart applications. Your strategic and technical expertise will directly support business continuity, security, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction at scale. About the Team The Global Technology Platform (GTP) powers Walmart's digital transformation and is the engine behind every customer experience. The Runtime Platform (RTP) is core to this foundationenabling scalable compute, seamless deployment, secure traffic routing, and service observability across Walmart's multicloud environments. You will focus primarily on the Traffic Management team , which handles: Global DNS and API Gateway Software load balancing CDN, edge computing, and eBPF-based traffic optimization Routing and security policies at scale Handling 10M+ requests per second across Walmart's digital footprint This is a critical, highly performant system supporting mission-critical traffic flows for Walmart globally. What You'll Do Lead and grow an elite engineering team responsible for Walmart's global runtime and traffic platforms. Drive strategy and delivery of Walmart's container/VM orchestration, ingress/egress management, configuration and secrets storage systems. Define, evangelize, and execute on a unified traffic visioncombining routing, DNS, security, observability, and scalability. Collaborate with product, operations, security, and business leadership to align technology strategy with Walmart's digital goals. Architect and modernize a world-class traffic platform using service mesh, eBPF, software load balancers, and multi-cloud routing policies. Create a platform that supports dynamic traffic shaping (rate limiting, circuit breakers, segmentation, etc.) while improving latency, resilience, and cost efficiency. Establish high standards for availability, observability, automation, and disaster recovery. Lead platform engineering with a strong developer-first approach, ensuring self-service, reliability, and documentation. Convert CxO-level strategic goals into measurable engineering OKRs and deliver through strong governance and ownership. What You'll Bring 20+ years of engineering leadership with a proven track record of building and operating large-scale distributed systems/platforms. Deep experience in platform engineering, especially in traffic management, container orchestration (Kubernetes) , VMs , and networking . Practical expertise in: Cloud-native networking (GCP, Azure, AWS) Service mesh technologies (e.g., Envoy, Istio, Linkerd) TCP/IP, HTTP(S), DNS, Load Balancing Rate limiting, DDoS mitigation, routing optimization Edge computing and CDN architectures Prior success leading engineering organizations of 100+ , including senior architects and engineering managers. Strategic mindset with the ability to define and implement long-term vision across globally distributed teams. Ability to distill complex technical architectures for executive audiences and align cross-functional stakeholders. Strong focus on metrics, observability, automation, and operational excellence (including fast service restoration SLAs). Excellent communication, collaboration, and executive influencing skills. Prior experience contributing to or leading open-source projects is a plus. Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Preferred Qualifications Experience with: eCommerce platforms Open-source contributions in traffic/network domains Agile at scale (SAFe or similar) Security-first design in platform engineering Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

You have the zeal to enhance our systems observability ensuring that we have the necessary insights and tools to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize our applications and infrastructure. - Expertise in debugging and root causing issues with an instinct to automate repetitive tasks. - Enhance System Observability: You will be implementing and maintaining robust observability solutions which provides real-time insights into the performance and health of our systems to proactively identify and address potential issues before they impact the users. - Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis: Utilize your expertise to investigate and resolve incidents quickly during crisis situations, performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence - Automation: Leverage your coding skills to create tools and automating runbooks to improve efficiency. - Documentation: Documenting and managing Runbooks and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing and team efficiency. - Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across multiple business and technical teams. Minimum Qualifications At least 4 years of prior demonstrated experience in Site Reliability Engineering, or an Infrastructure-focused role. Proficient in at-least one programming or scripting languages like Java, Python, Golang, Perl, Ruby, , etc., for developing tools in Observability, ETL, etc. First hand experience in debugging, performance tuning and root cause analysis of Applications. Support of internet-facing production services and distributed systems via deployments, onCall and Incident Management. Proficiency in implementing and coordinating telemetry using monitoring and observability tools like Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus, or similar. Experience in solving and resolving issues in Kubernetes from both an operating system and application perspective. Strong understanding of database principles and working knowledge in distributed storage and infrastructural solutions such as Oracle, Cassandra, SOLR, and Kafka Good command on Linux, Networking concepts (TLS/SSL, DNS, Load Balancers, etc.,) and troubleshooting skills in large scale environments Deep understanding of basic security concepts and protocols - authentication, authorization, signing, encryption, SSL/TLS, SSH/SFTP, PKI, X509 certificates and PGP. Excellent knowledge of ITIL terminology for incident and problem management Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or other related discipline. Preferred Qualifications Building and operating container orchestrating systems like Kubernetes or EKS. Experience with container management and micro-services architectures such as Docker in cloud and on-premises infrastructure. Hands-on experience in Java programming. Good experience in performance tuning databases. Understanding of Git, CI/CD, Release Engineering and DevOps. Strong Load Balancing (Nginx, Envoy, NetScaler) experience is a huge plus. Familiarity with Modern web services architectures, cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, Azure and distributed storage systems (ScaleIO, Amazon S3). Understanding of security standards, policies, and cryptography. Track record of excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
