Experience Required: 5+ Years Employment Type: Full-time (On-Campus Residency Required) Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled and motivated L2 Network Engineer with a strong foundation in Cisco switching technologies to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in configuring, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise network infrastructure, with a particular focus on Cisco Catalyst switching . This role involves designing robust network solutions, maintaining operational integrity, and ensuring secure, reliable connectivity across the universitys environment. Key Responsibilities: 1. Network Design & Implementation: Design, configure, and deploy Cisco-based switching and routing solutions to meet business and academic needs. Recommend and evaluate Cisco hardware/software based on technical and functional requirements. Configure Layer 2 technologies such as VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, and Layer 3 protocols like OSPF/EIGRP. 2. Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve Layer 2/Layer 3 network issues in a Cisco environment. Perform routine maintenance, software upgrades, and IOS patching on Cisco devices. Respond to and resolve network-related incidents and service requests efficiently. 3. Network Security & Compliance: Implement access control policies, ACLs, and port security on Cisco switches. Support integration with firewalls and NAC solutions for enhanced security. Ensure compliance with security best practices and university IT policies. 4. Performance Monitoring: Monitor Cisco switch and router performance using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or Cisco Prime . Proactively identify bottlenecks and recommend performance optimization solutions. 5. Documentation: Maintain updated network diagrams, device inventories, and configuration backups. Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and change logs. 6. Collaboration & Support: Coordinate with IT support, systems, and application teams for seamless service delivery. Collaborate with vendors and service providers for hardware support and troubleshooting. 7. Capacity Planning: Evaluate current network load and plan for future growth, particularly in Cisco-based environments. 8. Emergency Response: Provide on-call support for critical network incidents. Participate in disaster recovery and failover testing. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in IT/Computer Science or Diploma in Computer Engineering. CCNA certification is mandatory (CCNP preferred). 5+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise networking with a strong focus on Cisco switching . Familiarity with Cisco IOS CLI and network command-line tools. Technical Skills: Cisco Catalyst/Nexus switch configuration and troubleshooting. Networking protocols: TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLAN, VTP, DHCP, DNS . Firewall and VPN configurations (basic understanding; deeper knowledge is a plus). Network monitoring and diagnostic tools. Solid understanding of network security principles. Other Requirements: Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
