As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining product specifications using GD&T. Your expertise in utilizing CAD tools will ensure the quality and security of models and drawings, adhering to company, industry, national, and international standards. You will be responsible for processing internal engineering work requests and engaging with required functional areas as needed. Participating in maintaining standards and practices to ensure quality, you will also conduct and participate in Drawing Quality Reviews. Effective communication is key, as you will develop and deliver multi-mode communications tailored to the unique needs of different audiences. In this role, you will be expected to manage complexity by making sense of complex, high-quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems. Your decision-making skills should be of high quality, making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward. Driving results is essential, as you should consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances. Your responsibilities will include creating complete specifications in the form of solid models, configured engineering bills of materials, and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent. Additionally, you will create CAD models in accordance with company standards to represent architectural or product-level system design concepts, enabling system-level analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis. Establishing a baseline of identified product artifacts for configuration management and effectively managing product configuration and change management will be part of your duties. You will release, track, control, and communicate changes from concept to obsolescence, maintaining the integrity of product artifact baselines. Acquiring and applying an in-depth understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative and sound design concepts meeting Cummins and customer expectations is crucial. Designing for requirements of all lifecycle stages, considering customer requirements in different operating environments to ensure a robust system will also be a key focus. To be successful in this role, you should have a B.E/BTech in Mechanical or Associated Branches with 2 to 5 years of work experience. Proficiency in CREO (latest version 2D & 3D), PLM (Windchill), and Product Change Management is required. Hands-on experience with GD&T and a solid understanding of engineering terms is essential. Strong interaction skills and the ability to work efficiently in cross-functional teams are necessary, along with good learning ability and an understanding of various product features and their interrelationships.
