As the Design Team Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire design process, from conceptualization to prototyping and final product manufacturing. You will provide technical expertise and ensure quality parameters are met to minimize re-work. Your role will involve fostering creative thinking, addressing customer needs, and collaborating with the operations team to optimize product design for efficient manufacturing. Knowledge of Application Engineering for Plastic/polymer, metal, and SPM will be advantageous. Additionally, you will be involved in feasibility studies, design of Special Purpose Machines, and conducting trials to ensure desired quality standards are achieved. You will also represent the front face to clients from the operations team. Your key responsibilities will include leading the design team, managing complex design projects, meeting quality, cost, and delivery objectives, and developing team members" careers. You will be involved in VW Fixture design, Ultrasonic holding fixture Design, metal welding, SPM, and providing technical leadership to train design engineers. Collaboration with support staff, maintaining open communication, and implementing quality controls and procedures to meet customer expectations are essential aspects of this role. Furthermore, you will lead tool trial results, engage in feasibility studies, deal with ECNs, and work on concept designs. Your role will also encompass resolving design-related issues with the Manufacturing team, creating CAD models, preparing BOMs, and overseeing documentation. Travel to customer sites for technical discussions and tool trials may be required as well. Your expertise in new technologies like Pulse staking, laser, and IR, combined with experience in Applications, will be pivotal in stabilizing the design team comprehensively. To excel in this role, you should possess sound knowledge of plastic welding machines, jigs, and fixtures, as well as the ability to understand customer requirements and engineering drawings. Proficiency in 3D modeling, 2D drafting, GD&T principles, design for manufacturing, welding processes, and material properties is essential. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are also crucial for this position. Preferred qualifications include a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Plastics-CIEPT-DESIGN/CAD/CAM/CAE along with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
