Job Description

As a Substation Protection & Control (Secondary) Design Engineer, your main responsibility will be to create electrical protection & control design deliverables for projects ranging from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects. Your work can influence the future of the resiliency, reliability, and economic operation of the electric grid. Your key responsibilities may include: - Preparing proposals, developing project scope, conceptual designs, and execution plans. - Estimating engineering costs, man-hours, and project schedules. - Developing detailed engineering drawings for EHV AIS & GIS substation projects. - Designing protection and control systems, including panel arrangements, diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules, and bills of materials. - Performing engineering calculations and preparing study reports. - Preparing technical specifications for equipment procurement and testing. - Coordinating design activities with multidisciplinary teams and reviewing designs. - Collaborating with team members to monitor schedules and ensure high-quality deliverables. - Reviewing detailed electrical substation design packages for compliance with standards and codes. - Coordinating design activities with Siemens Energy's global engineering practices. - Undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned. - Participating in training sessions and organizational initiatives. Qualifications required for this role: - Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution. - Minimum of three years and a maximum of ten years of experience in Substation. Candidate requirements include: - Familiarity with NESC and IEEE standards, with prior project experience in the US, Canada, or UK preferred. - Membership in a professional engineering institution is desirable. - Strong understanding of engineering techniques and procedures. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work methodically and analytically with proven critical thinking skills. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong computer skills. - Strong diligence, organization, collaboration, facilitation, team-building, and problem-solving skills. - Basic knowledge of Substation Automation Systems (IEC 61850). - Preferred familiarity with Relay Testing, Control/Protection Scheme Testing, AutoCAD Electrical, and Substation 3D Design tools.
