Role & responsibilities An EEG tech's core responsibilities include performing, monitoring, and analyzing electroencephalogram (EEG) tests to record the brain's electrical activity for diagnosing conditions like epilepsy and sleep disorders . This involves preparing patients, correctly placing scalp electrodes, operating EEG equipment, documenting findings, and reporting results to neurologists. They are also responsible for maintaining the equipment, adhering to safety protocols, keeping accurate patient records, and providing patient comfort and education throughout the procedure. Core Responsibilities Patient Preparation: Explaining the procedure, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and preparing the patient by cleaning the scalp and placing electrodes for accurate readings. EEG Testing: Operating the EEG machine to record brain wave patterns and monitoring the recordings for quality and any abnormal patterns. Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyzing the collected EEG data and documenting findings to create detailed reports for physicians. Physician Collaboration: Communicating findings to neurologists or other medical professionals to assist in diagnosing neurological conditions. Equipment Management: Setting up, calibrating, and maintaining the EEG equipment to ensure it is functioning properly. Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records, including test results and relevant medical histories. Safety and Protocols: Adhering to infection control, patient safety, and privacy (HIPAA) regulations. Key Skills & Duties Technical Skills: Proficiency in setting up and operating EEG equipment to capture brain activity. Interpersonal Skills: Making patients feel at ease during the procedure, as they may be anxious or uncomfortable. Analytical Skills: Recognizing and documenting abnormalities in EEG patterns to provide meaningful data for diagnosis. Documentation: Keeping comprehensive records and producing clear, concise reports. Continuing Education: Staying updated with the latest advancements in EEG technology and techniques.
